Ticking noise coming from 3vze near distributor. Truck has no power unless advanced

My 3vze is running terribly, 0-60 in about 19 seconds... there is a ticking noise sounding like it is coming from the distributor. I recently put in a remanufactured crate engine and I was wondering what is wrong. I replaced the distributor completely because I thought it was broken because when the timing is set to spec, the truck wont pass 50 mph without struggling, but when the timing is maxed out on advancement it at least does the 0-60 in 19 seconds I said before. Replacing the distributor didn't fix the problem.. I'm starting to give up on this thing. It is a 95 4runner 3.0L 3vze 4x4.

Sounds like the distributor is one tooth off. And I just did a 0-60 in my 5 speed and it was about 16 seconds so 19 doesn't sound so horrid if its running badly. If I were you I'd move it a tooth and see how it runs. And the tick could be a lifter or valve.

In having a very similar problem. Mechanic said it was a exhaust leak. However it seems like it doesn't want to Rev over 3k rmps. As son as it hits 3k it drops down. Any ideas?
