Time for a bumper upgrade?

So my wife backed into a passing car this morning leaving the driveway. It destroyed the rear bumper and damaged the rear hatch. Since the rear bumper will need to be replaced anyhow I think it's the perfect time to put some armor back there. She's has a mall cruiser/grocery getter so a swing out would be more trouble than it's worth. I was thinking of buying the 4x4 labs basic rear bumper. Any thoughts or suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you!

Even tough I have a 4x4 lab bumper, for what your purpose is for, might see about a cheaper company. There not as cheap.
If you have plans in the future to modify your truck for non mail crawle purposer, it's a good choice, and you might think about swing outs (future purpose) as his add ons are bolt ons.

Armor it up...it will cost less and be stronger...whatever your intentions for the vehicle, whether a mall-cruiser or an off-road warrior, armor takes the advantage...like sliders are great for trail cruising and if at the mall, folks who park too close must now pay attention to their own doors instead of not worrying about your doors...does that make any sense?

Not sure, been well over a year since I was searching for one, then came across my DIY bumper.

I really can't find much out there for basic armor. I think Labs is about all I got. 500 for the DIY bumper is workable. It's just not something I have ever tried before.

How difficult was it for you to put that bumper together yourself? Any write ups that you know of?

Ok, didn't know you where looking this route as an option.
There are others out there as a DIY kit as I have seen periodic post pop up.
Sometime when I'm searching on items, It might take me a week or so on certain things to find/get what I'm looking for, even having to google out side of this form.

Here is one I did up for this one.

EDIT...4X4LABS DIY Rear Bumper new version. - Toyota 4Runner Forum ...
Still have a problem with paste ing up these infos, Search this.

As far as difficult... Each persons capabilities and tools supplies tend to dictate DIFFICULT. Me, I would put it at a 3. That's only due to dealing with the weight by myself and time to put together. Lots of welding and on and off the ride.

As far as $, I do believe it will be $$ more as there is a few more pieces on this versus what's posted on Lukes site, something you will have to discuss with him.
Hope this helps.

If your waiting for that to happen for an excuse, I can thinks of a few quicker ways for that to happen....

Thanks, that does help. I'm a mechanic for a living but I have never had to weld. I just recently picked up a couple welders. One is a Millermatic 200 work gave it to me for free but it's almost 40 years old. The other is an HF 180 Mig/flux with a broken potentiometer I got for 100 bucks new. I already order a new potentiometer off Amazon. Whichever suits my needs better I will keep. A bumper may be a bit much for my skill level. A neighbor of mine put a front labs bumper on his FJ80 so I could bug him for help. Might be worth a shot anyhow. Thanks again having fun.
