Time for a new battery

I've had my truestart for a month now. Got the group size 27, 710 cca. Seems to be PLENTY of battery for the 4runner. The starter screams nicely. Lol Also, its the same battery that goes in the tundras.

Not really, the positive is a little snug but not stressed.

I did replace the battery tray with a larger one. The battery might of fit the OEM tray but it would have been very close.

I understand. I've nearly flipped a few rigs myself, and I've watched many flip and roll down hills. I still say that if you roll on the trail, you've got more things to worry about than a battery leak.

I just don't understand paying $300 for something that the $100 option does better.
 
I had a oddy pc1700mjt, it was good, then i went with 2 diehard plat 31m, and it was way better, i do stress my system alot. My truck cranks up within 5 secs with all the extra capacity.
 
In the US there are 3 major battery producers who make pretty much every battery sold in the US. You have Exide, Johnson Controls, and AC Delco. Johnson Control is generally the best. They make the high end Die Hards as well as Interstate. They also make batteries Walmart as well as other retailers. With the exception of Die Hard batteries the Johnson Control batteries are the same. Sears actually does it's own research and development for Die Hard batteries and sources vendors to make them. Obviously JC is the best. I would avoid Exide at all costs. They also make many of the batteries for retailers so be sure to ask who makes the battery you are buying.

Gel and AGM batteries have much better vibration resistance. I killed a battery about every two years, including a Duralast Gold, before I sprung for an Optima red top. It's been going strong five years now and hasn't showed any signs of letting off, and has absolutely saved me money and hassle over using the cheapo parts store batteries.

If you're not killing batteries, then you don't need to worry about it. But that $100 battery isn't going to do anything better in my trucks. My trucks get used.

Started shopping around and of course reading what people are running on the forum and the consensus seems to be either a DieHard platinum, Odyssey (same as DieHard) ar an Optima yellow top.
So I called around to see who has what for batteries and warranties and found some interesting info.
Sears only carries a DieHard Gold with a 36mo. warranty. There is no platinums in a group 27F only a marine.
Batteries Plus who carries Odyssey said DO NOT buy Odyssey as they recently moved production to Mexico and they have had nothing but failures since. Instead they recommend the new X2 with a 60mo. free replacement.
As for Optima I'm torn as it seems everyone either loves them or hates them.
Lastly I figure I really can't go wrong with an Interstate as they have a 30mo. free replacement and 5yr. pro-rated replacement.

Wondering if anyone runs the Toyota parts store replacement?

If it was my alternator I would have more problems than just seeing indicator light out on my battery right?
Everything runs fine and headlights are bright. In addtion the dash lights for voltage/amps would be freaking out on me if the alternator as bad.
I've had an alternator go out and I don't think that is what I'm seeing happen.

Yeah if it was your alternator you'd usually be seeing the indicator on the dash. You can have an auto part store confirm that real quickly for free if it makes you sleep better. No idea what you have in South Dakota. Around here we have Auto Zone, NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc.
 
Checked levels in the battery and they were down just above the low mark. Added distilled water to the high mark and the blue battery light is back on after a short drive.
Really wish there was someway to get these awesome Panasonic batteries stateside.
 
Optima moved to Mexico, approx. 10 year ago.
- I use to get 9-10 years out of their USA AGM batteries
- now their junk, with poor warranty

While from Canada I still buy Sealed Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Designed batteries.
- from Canadian Tire & USA made...under $200 Cdn. and a full 5 year warranty
If I want something for much cheaper / go to WalMart...3 year warranty & USA made.

You exit that "Distinguished Road" after you reach 10,000 posts, and you have 2 green squares and it says "...will become famous soon enough"

The only one I've seen with that many or more posts is KidVermicious with over 13,000 posts, he posted in this topic on page 2 post #26
