Time for a new cat.

Check engine light came on a few months ago so I had it checked. They did a reset and told me my cat was about to go. Last week, had a car fart and the check engine light came back on.

Non-OEM I'd gonna cost $750 and OEM is gonna cost $1,800. Here in MI there is no emission inspection so other than getting the check engine light off I'd there any reason to do part with the money? Is there any way to bypass the system and reset so the light stays off?

You can find quite a bit of information if you do a search for P0420 CEL code. That's the code, as far as I know, that the dealer reads right before they get those $$signs in their eyes and tell you that you need a new cat or cats.

I was in the same situation with my old Benz. Got a universal cat for $125 part and labor. It was a little louder but my wallet didn't get thinner!

this ... uni cat, have it welded in. You could also junk yard shop.
