Well i've been debating this for a while, past few weeks ive had alot of occasions where I said to myself "chit, I wish I had a pickup right now" as much as I dont wanna spend the money or get rid of my 4runner . I think im going to treat myself to a 05+ body taco.

Ill still lurk here im sure, here are some recent pics of my ride. With a few mods inspired but other trucks on here

Can't blame you. I am planning on buying a 2012 Tacoma sometime this year. Commuting too much and want something nicer to drive to work. Wouldn't mind getting a camper too!

Ya I've thought about that , but its not a possibility for me since I don't have any were to put a trailer.

Plus the convenience of a pick would be so nice.

I'll offer this advice...I had a truck for the previous 4 yrs that I had the 4Runner. I used the truck for hauling approx 5 times. However, I was asked to help people move approx 100 times. I'm not saying you don't need a truck, but if I certainly don't miss mine. I can haul 90% of the stuff I used my truck to haul.

And I plan on buying a 4dr taco so ill still have the luxury of the back seat. I had a 94 yota pickup a few years ago. I had to sell it (pretty much gave it away) due to frame rot. Plus having a regular cab was a pain in the butt.

Ya get the pickup, the 4runner is a good compromise if you only can have 1 vehicle, but if you have too as david does than a 4 door commuter and a pickup are perfect.

When I need lumber or such, I am glad I am driving the Tundra and not having to go home to the 4runner, hook up one of the trailers, and then go back to the home store.

You should have no trouble selling your 4runner. The Tundra rims really bring it together. Post a couple of pics of your Taco when you get it.

I can see myself selling the 4runner in 4-5 years and getting a 2nd gen Tacoma. I love having a truck and it would be a nice upgrade. That depends though if my 4runner is s/c'd and I can always get a beater truck.

I say great choice on going for a tacoma. If I could afford one Id have one right now. Tacoma has been my dream vehicle since I was 16 (back in 2002). Our 3rd gen 4runners are awesome, but lets be honest, they dont compare to a newer tacoma as far a power, handling, hauling, etc.

I was the opposite in that I went from a truck (to a FJ) then on to my Runner mostly because I didn't use the bed nearly as much. I will say that I had an 05 Tacoma doublecab and I loved the truck. Very smooth, roomy, good power, easy to do maintenance on. You will be very happy!

Thanks guys, does anyone know if toyota does any type of year end deals or rebates ? On a 2011 truck for example. I've only window shopped and don't really feel like going to talk to any sales men just yet.

But I've heard toyota isn't very negotiable on their new vehicle prices I wonder how true that is.

Anyway, just an idea... My buddy has an 88 2wd truck... You could pick one up for less than 2k I bet... 30+ mpg with a 4 speed manual. Parts are cheap... AND you can keep the runner.

Ya I checked the site for toyotathoin details but all it says is 100$ off or 2.9 percent intrest which isn't **** I'd rather have a 2012
I've looked into a older yota pickup, ppl go crazy for those trucks out here in new england if they are in good shape. I had my eye out for a while but most of the ones in the 2-3k price range were so bad they were pretty much ready for the bone yard . Plus I already have a 97 civic 4dr that I use for a daily commuter , so have 3 cars would just be to much ..

As much as I like the 2nd gen Tacoma's, they have kind of lost their appeal to me. Everyone has one, they have absolutely ****** paint, the wheel bearings are notorious for going and cost like $1K to replace, the lower control arms are a one piece design (meaning: when the lower ball joint goes, you buy new LCA's), the frames are not as strong ("C" channel design vs. fully boxed). They look great and the 4.0 V6 is an awesome engine but I think if you plan on keeping the pickup for a long time, get a S/C'd 1st gen double cab and you are set for life. My $.02

I like the price of the 1st gen , but the reason I like the 2nd gen is the quad cab has the long bed option. (141" wheel base ) While the 1st gen quad cab is only availible with the tiny bed.

maybe it was the 3.0, my 4runner has been damm good to me so I hope a new taco would be the same..

one thing im bummed about is the quad cab long bed is not available with the rear locking diff "TRD Off-Road Package" . just the short bed.

I wonder if this is just something in the website or if its realy just not available ?

Nope, that is correct. The only 2nd gen Tacoma's that came with a locker are the "TRD Offroad" edition ones and I think the "Baja Pro" ones. The "TRD Sport" comes with a limited slip rear diff.
