Also the Sports limited slip diff is electronic now so they could fail on you or be finicky compared to the older (05-07) mechanical. I love the 2nd gens and would be all over a DC long bed. I'm going to have to get my 4runner s/c'd if I'm going to keep it for a real significant amount of time. The 4.0 is so nice to drive.

Your correct on the bed length. The 1st gen taco bed is tiny. I guess my viewpoint comes from a strictly wheeling/adventuring stand-point and less on the daily useability factor.

There was a headgasket recall for early production (start of production to early '97 build) 5VZ-FE engines, in both trucks (Tacoma, T-100) and 4Runners.

I got a notice years ago from Toyota alerting me to the possibility of a headgasket issue on my '97 4Runner. After calling with my VIN, they told me it was built late enough in the year (7/21/1997), that it had been built with the updated Headgaskets.

They wouldn't tell me what the cut-off build date was for '97 5VZ-FE equipped vehicles which were subject to the recall.

I simply hook up my trailer before I go to the home store to get lumber, and I ain't even that smart.:trophy:
