Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

Agreed, they are not bad tires when new but it's the sipes that are not the depth of the tread. I noticed they became racing slicks after 15k.

I currently have 6500 miles on my general grabbers at2 that i installed on my lifted super charged alltrac previa aka Tala-Van. I installed these Oct 30,2015, that's a little under 2 months. If i had these falken wild peaks, it would be half way worn out. At this rate, the generals look like they will do 65000 miles real easy. These 4 ply skinny at tires look brand new. I did 215 75 16 got them from discount tire direct on some sale on ebay, came to 384 shipped.

Pictures of the questionable vehicle,lol.....yes this vehicle has a lot of crap done to it too.

P is a good choice for you, go for it

I really like my 255/75 P rated DTs, my favorite tire I've had. they're still a little louder than LT rated BFG ATs IMO but the ride is much better. I haven't used them a ton off road, and now my wife drives the 4runner, but they seemed fine as long as you're not going into sharp rocks. The gas mileage is also better with the P rated DT than with LT rated BFGs.

Awesome thanks for that. I'm curious, why did you go with 255/75? I believe they are essentially the same size as 265/70 (what I plan to go with).

I'm guessing the 255s do a bit better in the rain and snow? And perhaps lose a bit handling/cornering...and maybe not quite as good in mud?

This is a bit off topic, but I'm not having much luck in my other thread on OME suspension with this question so I'll try it here.

Is it "necessary" to add the front diff drop kit to the coil/shock combo I plan on buying?

It's the Old Man Emu (OME) 885 (F) and 895(R) spring combo. Should lift the front 2.5-3" or so and the rear 1.5-2" or so.

On Toytech's website if you are buying the OME kit with coils and shocks/struts they make it sound like you need to get it if you have 4WD (mine is 4x4 V6).

I had no idea what a front diff drop was so I googled it. Sounds like it is to reduce the angle/stress on the CV joints caused by the lift.

Is it necessary with my coil lift? The suspension shop where I plan to get the work done never mentioned the FDDK.

Advantages? Disadvantages? Best practice?

Gosh your needy! Lol! I know you want to make sure you have everything you need, just go with some stuff, your going to keep changing things regardless if it's perfect, that's what car guys do!

You don't HAVE to had a diff drop, I do, some don't! I'd does reduce the angle slightly. It's a very simple install, no secrets ways! It's all spacers.

Your going to be supper happy and excited with what your going with!

Depending on who's advice you're taking some say skinnier works better in most conditions except sand and rocks but I actually got them because I'd read of another member [MENTION=44866]ARK_SWAMP_RIDER[/MENTION] getting better gas mileage from the 255s compared to the wider tires.

I bought the tires with the street in mind, and the aggressiveness available when I need it. They work great on the street, wet or dry, except a little extra noise. They are also very cheap in that size if I remember correctly.

I also have 255's and they work great. Ive used them in soft sand and they work fine Just need to air down.

Right on, thanks. I'll mention it to the guy who owns the shop where I'm going to get the suspension work done. I'll probably go with his advice regarding the diff drop.

Honestly I'm not really a "car guy." Much more of a gun and fishing guy! However I figure since I've decided to go with all OME here, which is pretty pricey for me, I want to get it "right" the 1st time and not have to bring the vehicle back for adjustments/tweaking.

Makes sense. I think the 265/70/17 is the size I'll go with as I like the look better of the slightly wider tire.

i went 255/70/18 because i liked the look of getting the tallest tire in the fender i could when stock. also i have gone places with other 4th gens sitting as tall as me and they were hitting skids where i was not because some of the lift i had to sit at the same level was from my tires so my diff and skids are higher off the ground

Shooting to start up somewhat of a thread revival. I am also looking to change my tires since when I bought the 4runner it came with bridgstone highway tires. I haven't done too much 4x4 trails but living in Colorado and enjoying fishing and camping, I see the trails coming in the future.

I am leaning towards the 255/75 due to looks and possible better MPG since the 4runner is the daily driver too. Just can't seem to know what load rating to go with. If I get into some easy to moderate trails will the standard load rating be strong enough or should I should for a Cooper ST Maxxx with a C rating. If I don't need to go up in load rating chances are I will just go with an AT3 or almost any all terrain tire that comes with all black lettering for looks.

Any help appreciated since I am obviously knew to the forum and the 4x4 world.

Yes, good thread comparing Duratracs and KO2's but not much on MPG. Not that it's a big deal but I'd definitely go with a 255 vs a 265 if there was better MPG involved.
I went from KO2's load C to Duratrac's in load E; a heavier tire indeed. I lost a couple MPG but boy are the Duratrac's great tires.

A quick comparison:

With the 255/75/17 bring the lightest tire, I'm tempted to go with the Duratrac's. That is, assuming weight affects MPG more than the taller size.
