Time for new calipers.

253k and it's time for new calipers. (One piston is frozen and will not competes against the roter). I would appreciate a recommendation for replacements.

You didn't recommend OEM. How dare you not do that? Think of the safety of everyone you just jeopardized by not recommending OEM parts. The whole world is going to collapse now because of you. Thank you for killing us all.

Just kidding. A simple rebuild kit will work fine.

I was going to go that route, but the pistons were too far gone (couldn't even turn them!). I put on aftermarket remans and they've been great for 3 years and ~35k kms.
 
A set of OEM's will set me back ~ $750 and I can't afford that much right now. Where do you guys go for non-OEM parts?

Get the OEM washer kit. Pull all 4 pistons from the caliper, clean all well (nothing goes inside the fluid chamber). Insert the washers and slide the pistons (use caliper grease to slide the pistons into the caliper body) and finally place the dust boot. Now you have a like-new caliper.

Check Rockauto.com for Centric calipers, I've used them for years and their quality is as good as OEM; which after all is what they rebuild.
 
You could go OEM rebuild kit for pretty cheap. I went with Autozone calipers when I did Tundra brake upgrade. Aftermarket are all OEM remans. Autozone offers a lifetime warranty and had a killer deal buying them online. No hassle when I brought my cores in to store for refund. Easy.
 
I'm NOT mechanically inclined and I lack access to the equipment necessary to do the job myself so I stopped by one of the local Midas shops to get a quote. Roters and new pads installed for about $650. Is that unreasonable given I can't do the job myself?

Christ, yes, you got taken to the cleaners. That's outrageous.

Here's the thing - "I'm not mechanically inclined" is a really good reason not to try to rebuild a jet motor with a 50-piece toolset from Target and a stick of gum. "I'm not mechanically inclined" is a terrible reason to pay $650 (lmfao) to get rotors and pads replaced. "I'm not mechanically inclinded" is code for "I wasn't breastfed as a child and am too scared to roll up my sleeves and a little dirty". "I'm not mechanically inclined" is a copout.

It's your wallet, pal, but a decent set of pads is maybe $30, and I've got good money says your rotors were just fine, and to replace them on a 4Runner is literally eight bolts and a couple clips. You CAN do the job yourself. You just didn't.

Says he just got a quote, he didn't get it done.

Yes, that is way to much.
 
Very unreasonable that is way high I would get multiple quotes from places but it is honestly a super easy job.
