Time for the Dunflops to go...GY DuraTrac for replacement?

Well I'm just about ready to take these stock Dunflops off to replace them with something much better.

I've been looking at the Nitto Grapplers, BFG AT tires....and of course....REVOs....then I thought about Good Year, and what do they have to offer?

Well low-and-behold, they have some new tires that may just fit the bill. They appear pretty agressive...and reviews from different forums give these tires the thumbs up on both off and on road. Off road is apparently for good, infact...I haven't read about anyone getting stuck yet! On road...handling is great along with snow and rain traction. Road noise has been said to be lower than the REVOs..and deff. not as loud as a full MT tire.

I go off roading now and then, super easy stuff....I like to fish and camp...and so when or if the situation comes that the trail might get a bit more rough....I'd like to have the capabilities to drive through OK. These Good Year tires in junction with the 4runner's 4wheel drive system should make a great pair.

So, just a recap, let me ask these slightly noob questions, this is my first time getting new tires.


I want to go from the 31 tire size to the 32 size. Do I need to do a slight lift, like a Cornfed Spacer Lift?

I need to be looking at 265/70/r17 if I want to be doing 32s right?

What about my spare tire, would this tire size fit okay?

And...I'm goin to want the "C" range of these tires right? E would be too stiff if I remember right.

Tirerack.com has a good price for these...I can get 5 of these tires for 700 bux. Not bad....no matter what I know it will be money.

Any other thoughts guys?

Some comments:
- These tires are still too new to really know how they perform on or off-road.

- Personally, if i had a choice (and money no object), then i would pick GY Wrangler SilentArmor over this tire if you had to stick with Goodyear tires. Why? GY SA has Durawall which significantly makes the sidewall stronger against puncture (good for off-roading). It is rated by Goodyear to be better than Duratrac on-road. - As far as i can read, these Duratrac tires are no better than your average AT/highway tires in terms of strength. I would highly doubt that they are quieter than REVOs. They are apparently noisier than Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor, according to Goodyear website.

- The price is good...but you know what they say...you get what you pay for....

- Yes, 265/70/17 is a 32" tire. No, you do not have to lift your 4runner to fit these 32" tires. However, with a few AT tire (BFG AT KO for example), there is minimal rubbing in the front i believe due to BFG's square shoulder.

- I believe that 265/70/17 should fit in the spare compartment...but you need to testfit it just to be sure. Most tire places will let you testfit it prior to purchase.

- Load Range C or D should be fine. It all depends on the tire itself. For example, Michelin LTX A/T-2 comes only in Load Range E for certain sizes, but it rides plenty good despite the high load range. So, i would not simply rule out Load Range E totally (if you had no other choice).

- I do know that some tire places (like Discount Tire Co) will price match or come very close to TireRack's prices. So, i would try your local tire place BEFORE ordering from TireRack...just ask them to match TireRack's prices. In addition, by getting them locally, you can also testfit the tires easily and exchange them easily too.

You know I think your right...the GY SA tires look like they'd fit me much better....

The only thing I didn't like about the DuraTracs were the aggressive looks. Almost way too buff for what I was going for...

But after reading tons of reviews on the GY SA, I can honestly say that the GY SA tires are probably the best ones to go with.
