Time to choose my tires

One member insists that bfg are crap and coopers are the best and he can get them for real cheap. When questioned how, it never adds up.

That whole a BFG vs Cooper thread with the Cooper 'discounts'+ 'sale' + 'coupon' +'rebate' thread was just amazing. It just never added up.

I get crap from people because I run Nitto's. But contrary to many people I have had great luck with Nitto's over the years.

Yeah I get that the BFG vs Duratrac conversation. What I don't get is why the Coopers?

One of these things are not like the other... The pics of at3s I've seen look less aggressive than the OE tires.

It all depends on what you need. Fir dry conditions the cooper AT3 would be just fine, but in consistent wet/muddy conditions it would not be my weapon of choice.

Tires are always a compromise. I ran BFG MT tires up till the end of last year. Now I deal with more sugar sand conditions so I moved to a wider AT tire. These float a lot better than my prior MT. I did loose the cutting effect of a MT so I try to stay out of deep mud now. The cooper AT3 is fairly popular here with the non-rednecks. Rednecks wont be seen with anything but the loudest MT tire avaliable.

Ah. Please tell me that ridiculous thread about the discounts and coupons is not being perpetuated in other threads to confuse people about actual tire choices. I've spent tens of minutes trying to find an AT3 on the same playing field with KOs/Duratracs, only to keep arriving at STT or Maxes like WTF.

Just ignore [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] and I about coopers AT3's we just have fun with saying things about them! Good tires, we just kid and hijack!!

Not sure about their Terras though, I think I read somewhere about instability due to tread squirm or something. Also not sure of the snowflake on the Nittos. We get maybe 6 days of snow here a year, so not a huge rush, but we had a situation last year that made me go "never again".

Parked beside this guy at the local Golfsmith last night... He had some brand-spankin' new AT3s, and I must say, they are a lot more aggressive in person than in stock photos.

I retract my previous F*** AT3s. For the right price, I would rock these.

Just not for Duratrac monies.

Thought I would chime in on the Duratrac's, no wondering what so ever and pretty quite as well.

How long have you had them? Pretty quiet compared to what, Swampers? I'm about 8 months in to our set and they're getting good and loud. Seem to have good traction everywhere I've taken them, though.

I haven't seen them mentioned but I know a few guys who use the General Grabber AT2 and they love them. Basically a knock-off of the BFG-AT tread but a bit softer. Also, most sizes get a mountain snowflake winter designation. The price is right, too.

That's what I'm planning for my truck when I eventually replace these Uniroyals (put on new by the dealership, not my choice, but I can't justify ditching them yet either)

Not sure about back east. Do you have any experience with performance/track cars? I have good experience with Nitto as a brand, but not on trucks or OHVs. I've only seen one set of TGs locally.

Pretty much everyone here either runs BFG A/Ts with a Duratracs cropping up more, or a mud tire. The "wheeling" around here consists of ATV-type wooded environments or power-line-type environments, with plenty of mud holes. Even the bypasses get rutted out. There are some dirt/rock environments such as UNF but trail damage on my dd is not my cup o' beer so I've only hit it on a 4wheeler.
