If I remember right when I did my 4.7 timing belt you just remove the bolts and take it off. When you put it back on it must be compressed in a vice and locked in place with an allen wrench which is removed after the tensioner is in place. How do you know it is a bad idler and not the water pump pulley? The very top pulley is the water pump and if it needs replaced the whole timing belt assembly must be removed just like changing the belt.
