timing belt becoming one tooth off more and more with each rotation

TB and WP replace here, 02 4runner. Watched countless videos and read all kinds of guides. Finally get it all stripped down and put the new belt on, was able to get it all on correctly, TB marks on the belt were matched up with top two pulley marks, crank mark was spot on. Clamps on top two pulleys to be sure nothing moved and was able to install the idler pulley without moving anything. Everything was at the proper TDC beforehand.

Now Im checking by doing a few manual rotations, and the TB is progressively off a tooth each time it comes up TDC. The marks for the top two pulleys were exactly right once assembled but are now moving somehow.

Id guess it doesnt matter as long as the marks are off the same amount? Is this common or did I somehow screw it up?

edit - nevermind guys, just found my own answer in the suggested threads below....duh.

Glad you got it figured out.

I'm guessing you realized the belt marks only matter for the initial install and don't correspond after rotating and it's the marks on the pulleys that are important?

You'd have to make about 326 rotations for the marks to line back up

JK

But once you install on the marks you are good to go!
