Timing Belt Problem...

Hey guys, this is my second real issue (first was the ac compressor) with my runner and I was wondering what it took to change timing belt, set time, and what to check for, im having a mechanic do it for me and was curious as to how much $ you guys have had yours done for... I dont think mine had ever been replaced, and with 115000+ miles i cant really blame it for breaking... thahnk for the help!

Mine was $704 to get changed, but I got a lot more than the timing belt done.

First, I didn't go to the dealer but went to a mechanic we know. Next, I had the water pump replaced (I had planned to do this even before I found out it was leaking), and I got the tensioner pulley and idler pulleys replaced. The idler pulleys are expensive, and might not need to be replaced at all, but mine were bad supposedly so whatever. So $704 with labor and parts. And I'm glad mine didn't go out, it had 118,000 on it when I got the change (I just bought the car, the previous owner neglected this detail).

Hope that does you some good. If you want I can look at my invoice and get you specific pricing for the parts that the mechanic paid, she said she gave them to me for what she could get them for.

wow, well i just picked up my truck from the mech. and he said that my timing belt had not broken, it was just my fuel filter, so25 bucks later i was rollin again!

i would still look into getting it done. It WILL fail on you soon enough. I did mine myself for 300 bones and 6 hours outta my day.

Dealership here charged $530 for the belt and waterpump and $60 for the accesory belts.

$620.00 out the door from a shop done by an ex-Toyota mechanic. Used all OEM parts. Replaced timing belt, water pump and belts. It's the labor that was pricy, as usual.
