Timing Problems

Hi, just recently I have heard a "flat spot" or slight internl backfiring (pop). This only happens when I start to accelerate quickly when idling. I checked my timing and it is a little out, about 20 btdc! I have not "jumped" E1 & TE1 and my system has no distributor. How can I adjust the timing to about 10-12btdc or am I just going to have to leave it as it is?

Cheers

Not that I know of save that when I plugged in my OBD it said that no 2 was misfiring. I removed the coil and swapped it around but still the problem remains the same but nothing on the OBD after that.

When was the last timing belt service done? There is no adjustment on the ingition timing, only valve timing so it sounds like you may have jumped a tooth or two on the T-belt.

Is it stuck at 20°BTDC? The spec is 3°-19° BTDC and what you should see is the mark moving in a range between 3° and 19°. (at idle and trans in neutral). You will never get it to stick at 8°-12° nor would you want to.

Is idle speed at spec? 750±50?

I'd definitely check for vacuum leaks and chase that misfire. The ECU is in charge of ignition timing, and it's off for a reason. Timing Belt slip would surprise me. Sensors (crank position?) possibly.

Thanks Durk. Yes rpm is at 750-700 but at about 900 when the ac is on. I will check for vacuum leaks again today and let you know what I find.

Durk, I checked all the vacuum hoses but they are all tight and connected properly according to the diagram. Still have the small misfire.
