Tint Options w/ Polarized Sunglasses

Big fan of polarized sunglasses due to time on the water, but every car that I have been in with aftermarket film tint has given me the "rainbow effect" while wearing Costa sunglasses. I assume this is due to the make up of the lens in polarized sunglasses and the make up of the tint film.


I'd like to add some tint to the front door windows, but not deal with any vision issues. Anyone have any suggestions or success with adding window tint to the front door windows and not getting the rainbow of colors? Wondering if having smoked glass cut to replace is my only option.

I wear both Oakley Polarized Iridium and Maui Jim Polarized and have had no issue with tinted windows either in front or back.

Our tint was installed in a professional tint shop with quality film, not store bought stuff. No problems with polarized glasses.

I just got mine installed at local tint shop, 20%. Haven't had any problems with the rainbow effect. I only wear Costas, 580 & 580P.

There is a polarized tint that I see on a lot of cars (especially when I wear my Costas) that gives that effect, I suppose they are polarized differently than the sunglasses. Doesn't happen with mine though.

No prob here with the rainbows and tint. I have polorized prescription Maui Jim's.

i have always ran polarized oakley glasses and have no issues with llumar tint. i recommend the higher quality stuff like llumar to avoid that effect

Got a quote from the local Tint World shop to me, and questioned the rainbow effect and basically the guy on the phone I spoke with told me there wasn't anything I could do, that it was the UV protection in the film that plays with the polarization in the sunglasses.

I somehow find what he told me pretty hard to believe. I know that I've been in plenty of cars with film tint and seen the rainbow, and seen cars on the road that I can see the rainbow in their tint. On the flip side, I've also seen cars on the road with tint that do not affect my Costas at all. I have the 400 lenses in my pair, if that makes any difference.

Not sure if it matters I am running Wincos IR rejection tint.

Maybe try another shop? I don't see a lot of cars around here with the polarized but there aren't many tint places in town so they probably got theirs where I got mine. So maybe the reason you see so many in your area with the rainbow tint is that they all get their tint done at the same places, where polarized tint is used.

I use both Costa and Oakley polarized glasses and have no issues. My windows were done using 3M brand tint if that helps.
