Tint question

I'm thinking about tinting my runner to 5 % along with the factory tint but I don't know if that would be too dark. Should I go with like 20 % or something else? I want something dark enough so my runner would stay cool in the summer.

The price I was quoted is $180, does that seem too high? What price did you guys get it when you had yours done?

Thanks!!

I went with 20% all around over the factory and I'm happy with it. It keeps it pretty cool and looks pretty good. I was considering 5% in the back but though it would be over kill. I paid 180 when I had mine done.

would you have a picture of it? If I did 5%, it might be too dark to see at night but it would be nice to have it since is so sunny in Cali.

This is 20% fronts, 15% on rears, 45% on windshield:

You can see the difference between the front and back windows.

I don't have any pictures of my new tint, but I put 15% on the fronts and now they match the back windows.

I did 20% on the front 2 and 5% on the rest and sunroof...it may be alittle dark but it looks good!!
I paid $155 out the door

It is if it's raining or if you don't feel like rolling it down.

I like to know who is behind me when I'm driving.

:)

This is my truck with 20% tint over the factory. Not the best pictures but this is what I have on hand.

I don't really have any pics of the truck just sitting in my driveway :D .

there's really no reason to get 5% tint.

I saw a 4 door sedan that had 20% all around including the windshield and it was pitch black, you could not see into it, and with 20% I bet he could see out just fine, even at night.

I bet if you tinted the 4runner 35% all around including the windshield it would be pitch black.

I'm thinking of going 5% on everything but the drivers windows, 20% on those... I have a night vision back up camera so I'm not too worried about night time.

Cops would also be MUCH more likely to pull you over. I've seen pictures of 20% and 35% windshields and it's very noticeable.

There's definitely a difference in 20% all around and 5% all around.

Juiceboxer, it's not just backing up for me, it's more about who is behind me and beside me. I have the equivalent of 5% including factory tint on mine. It is plenty dark. 5% on top of factory tint must be crazy dark.

Thats a good point, I always forget about the factory tint, its so light:D As for the cops, good luck if your windshield is tinted, at least in california, we cant even have tint on out driver/passenger windows. I guess a fix it ticket never hurt anyone...

is it hard to see at night with the 20%?

Glockwarrior

Do you have any difficulty seeing at night with the 5%?

What kind of glock do you have warrior?

I noticed it in your sn.

I went down to make the appointment and If i did the 20%, my runner would have the 5% look? or should I just go for the 5%?

I have a couple Glocks....Just been collecting them when I have the money.
Its not that bad, I could always roll the window down to see backing up.
As for the cops, here in TN we are allowed 5% on all windows except for the front 2.

Ha! You're kidding right? My wife's 4Runner has 35% film tint on every piece of glass, except for the windshield, and it's VERY EASY to see into it...DAY or NIGHT. Tinting her entire front windshield with 35% film tint would be negligible at best. I could still stand at the rear of the vehicle and see in.

Remember, 35% = the percentage of allowable light that passes thru the tint. Therefore, it's not possible to make any vehicle"pitch black" by just tinting one layer of 35% film tint all around a vehicle that had not previously had aftermaket film tint installed. (I'm sure if you applied 3-4 layers of the stuff it would eventually black it out, but there's no reason to do that.)

Now tint a vehicle (w/ black interior) w/ 5% film tint, including the entire windshield and it would definitely qualify as "pitch black".

How old are you?

I think it was pretty easy to see out of 20% at night, but I'm also 18.

No matter what anyone says 5% will definitely take time to get used to. Did you mean 5% all around or the equivalent of 5%? If you put 5% on the rears it will be different than putting 5% on the fronts.

If a put the 20% on all rears, is going to be equivalent to 5%.

I saw my neighbors car and she has 5% done on top of her factory tint.

I'm thinking about asking her to let me try the car out at night and see how it is.

My vision is good, I'm curious what it would be like to see outside at night with the darker tint.

Clemsonfan15

I'm with you in the 18+ club.

20% on the rears and 5% on the fronts will match pretty well. The fronts will be a little lighter due to the windshield.

A lot will also depend on what type of streets you drive on. If there are a lot of shops and street lights it won't be that bad, but I drive on a lot of roads that have no lights so it makes it a little more difficult.

get your windshield tinted 50%, it cost me $80. Tinting the back 7 windows and leaving no tint on the windshield is going to get really hot in the summer time when the heat enters though the windshield. it will be like driving this:
