tint ticket

U guys are no help, my rims aren't ghetto, it's not bling bling dammit , I think I might have someone to sign it, not sure tho, but man , my rims was cheaper than buying some tires of tirerack, my taste is differnt from some of you here.

this is why I haven't, and never will get tints. the last thing you need is to be pulled over for something stupid like that, then get popped for something else. not worth it for darker windows in my opinion.

@OP: That's a bummer man. Tint laws are incredibly lame. You would think they have something better to do than worry about dark windows.

They just changed the laws here so that installers are now responsible if you have darker than 50%. They won't install anything darker, at all. Good thing I got my 4R tinted a few months ago. 35% FTMFW!

Redo your tint.

Get 50% on front windshield and 50% on front two windows. You'll never get hassled. Every car forum I go to the kids always do 5% all around and leave the front windshield untinted which doesn't make any sense because you can still look into the vehicle from the front and it does nothing in term of decreasing temperatures. Actually I bet it increases the temperature inside the vehicle since the heat goes in through the front windshield and can't escape. Also, having 50% on the front three windows is better for your vision as your eyesight doesn't have to adjust from 5% tint to no tint. Having 50% on the front windshield and 35% on the passenger windows makes the front two windows with 50% appear darker, it looks more like 35% from the outside.

i went for 2 years before getting pulled over in my town late at night for having the fronts tinted, lucky he let me go, just said take it off or next time get a ticket, so off it came. like jesse1983 said, not worth the hassel imo.

They watch front tint quite close here as well. A friend of my wife's is a policeman and he jokes about loving to pull over cars with tint in the drivers windows... just another reason to pull someone over.

:lookout:

Don't worry about your wheels. They are not illegal. I didn't read the whole thread to see if it was a fix it ticket or not but i am assuming it is considering your looking for a cop to sign off on it.

If this is your case then I can get you off the ticket.

Well, i said that cause they aren't exactly helping your "i'm not a drug dealer" image. Just sayin'. If i was you i would yank the tint of the front windows, thats how i drive, i don't like to give cops an extra reason to pull me over.

I love that Cali has marijuana dispensaries, and trying to legalize (or at least decriminalize extremely) marijuana, but they pull someone over for tint.

In AL you can go as dark as you want behind the front seats....front windows are 30% I think and nothing on the front (with exception to the top 6").

Just an fyi, when I get pulled over...I usually roll all of my windows down, including the back window...just to put the cop at ease.....

Then take off the rims and put on something less...how do i put this nicely...less drug dealer/gangbangerish?

Or throw on some meaty tires and get it muddy and they will start bothering you about mud flaps instead:D

x2

i have had limo tint on almost every car/vehicle i have ever owned and have never revived a ticket while driving in the western united states but i have noticed that you are less likely to get pulled over looking like a soccer mom then a kid, riced out, gansta, or poor looking cars do, when i was younger i had what i would call poor looking cars, fenders beat mis matching panels ect, i would get pulled over all of the time for stupid stuff like this, you know the laws they makes just to give them a reason to pull you over, then i had what you could call riced out gansta cars integrea's and the rest i would get pulled over all the time in those as well for the same thing but when i started buying average looking run of the mill cars and keeping them semi-stock looking i haven't had a ticket in 10 years since.

that said, i'm not criticizing you or calling you anything, i don't know you, i'm just saying if there are 2 cars speeding next to each other same car same make same model and one has after market rims that are kind of bling to be honest and tint, i'm as a cop pulling that guy over in hopes of catching him on some other things as well.

your only options are to suck it up quit moaning and risk getting another ticket or peel it off and go with a lighter tint color.
long story short, your not going to change the laws by complaining on a forum so you got 2 options and only you can decide what to do from here.
sorry you got caught up man.:ak472:

How about 5% all around and 45% on the windshield. :p

Did you roll all your windows down like piperoo said? That's the first thing I would do. And turn on the dome light.

I hate the dark tint i have because it makes it a pain in the ass to drive at night! I cant wait to pull it off someday.

Its your rig, you can make it how you want. But you put big rims and dark tint and junk on it you are going to be treated as a drugdealer/gangbanger.
Just like if i chopped the roof off my 4runner, beat it to hell, and sprayed it camo i would be treated like a redneck/hick.

I wasnt criticizing your rig, but just stating the fact that you will be treated different because it looks like that.

I disagree. I had 22's and blacked out windows on my ride for 2 years and never got pulled once. It wasn't luck, it was the fact that I don't speed, I don't blast my music, and I don't deal drugs. Granted I also wasn't driving around at 4 am ever. As parents teach us, nothing good happens on the street between 10pm and 6am. I think regardless of what your ride looks like, you’re going to get profiled 400% more, within those hours.

For you, obviously this isn't an option since you get off work at that hour. And the time is also most likely the reason he called for backup. You have to realize he has no idea who he is pulling over. He profiled your car, not you.

As the others with dark tint said, I roll down my front 2 windows, turn on the dome and map lights, shut the car off immediately and put my hands on the wheel. I have my registration and license in my sun visor so i have that in my hand ready to go. Since I have started doing that I honestly notice a large increase of the police being a LOT nicer to me, often showing a sort of remorse that they originally pull me not knowing what to expect with my dark windows and finding out I am a very nice and polite tax-paying American who has no priors, warrants, and no illegal weapons or drugs in my car.

I have gotten hassled about my tint before but for the amount of times in the time that I have had it, totally worth it. So in summation, you can do whatever you like to your car, but with some things, like wheels and tint, you should be prepared to deal with it.

I was mad as hell the first time i was pulled for it, then I started realizing how easy it was to get it taken care of and it became minimal to no hassle. Yes it is extra work sometimes but it is very rare and like I said, completely worth it to me. The last 2 tint tickets I got, I was courteous to the officers did everything I said and neither of them ever entered the tickets into the system. It is human nature to be nice to one another. I know it may be hard to believe but the police want to be nice to you (for the most part). Once they meet who they're dealing with, don't hassle them or give them a reason to treat you otherwise. I used to hate hate HATE cops, now; I almost have no business with them. I don't ever go out of my way to tip my hat but I don't give them a reason to take a second look at me either.

Keep your head up and your rims and tint on . . .

:bravo: I couldn't agree more. It seems like everyone always blames the cops for everything, but the truth is, if you weren't speeding, driving reckless/drunk, or otherwise breaking the law (regardless of how stupid you think the law may be, it is STILL the law, and if you don't like it, call your congressman), then you would have nothing to worry about. Police have to live with the fact that any "normal traffic stop" could turn into a life or death situation without any warning, so being cautious is simply a survival strategy. I'm usually not judgmental, but it is a fact that stereotypes do come from somewhere.

Exactly, BUT, I am not saying he was doing any of those things but simply driving that late/early in the morning. The way your car looks probably had little to do with why you were pulled.

For those of you who claimed front window tint is legal in Cali (30% n 70% was mentioned, you are WRONG.

In California, it is ILLEGAL to have the FRONT WINDOWS tinted. Period. Starting from the B-Pillar, you can have it as dark as you want.

op, I feel your pain, but you gave them a reason to pull you over. And they will always take advantage of that when they have nothing else to do, especially at 4am. I wouldn't read to much into it. If it is a fix it ticket, rip your front tints and fix the ticket, and retint your fronts afterwards if you still want. Tint is not expensive.

I'v been pulled over without speeding or doing anything stupid. I had a chp pass me look at me slam on the brakes and pull me over. It was a super trooper thing! He said i got pulled over for mud flaps. How pitiful. I had stock ones still on.... Anyway he left me off, asked me if i had pot in my truck gave me knucks (WTF!) and left. I went home and took the stock flaps off and have been good ever since lol.

If i dont like the law there is nothing I can do. Lets be serious California is going down the toilet

He may not have been driving reckless/speeding/etc., but IF his tint is too dark, then he IS breaking the law, regardless of how stupid we all may believe the law is. I am not, nor have I ever been a police officer, but I am and have been friends with those that are. The law is the law, and cops take an oath, and are required to enforce ALL laws, not just those they think are fair/good/cool. My main point is, if you want to knowingly break the law, don't complain when you're punished for it.

He said i got pulled over for mud flaps.

Are you not allowed to have mudflaps or something?
