Tint

Hafa Adai,

I am seriously considering tinting my front side windows. But with that in mind I have to consider also the regulations that apply to the State that I might be transferring to. I will be transferring from Guam to the States in 18 months and I like to keep my tint legal (I really don't like scraping it off).
My question is: For those of you who reside in California, Washington, Illinois and Hawaii, what is the allowable tint value (how dark) that I can apply to my windows if the States in question even allow tint be applied in the front?

I just had window tint put on the two front windows last Thursday. I was surprised to discover that it is indeed illegal to put aftermarket tint on the two front windows however, it also says that the two front widows must allow for 70% of natural light to pass through. I have friends who have put 5% all the way around and have never been bothered about it. I just wanted my front windows to match the factory privacy glass so I have less than 70%, but I still went for it. It started raining the day I got the tint and hasn't stopped yet, so I have not had a chance to see how I feel about the work the installer did yet.

there's a chance that we won't get stopped purely because we have a front tint, but if you do get stopped for a traffic accident, speeding, etc you will get cited.

in other word's a c/s ticket.

In Washington State, at least I believe its still current; you can have up to 35% in the front with as dark as you like in the rear. But that doesn't apply to cars. Does apply to SUVs.

You could just check the list of tint laws by searching google for it or something. Not sure how up to date they are though, but they for the most part should be since i don't see states changing tint laws every so often..

its not illegal to tint, it has to be over 70% tint to be legal, but your not gunna tint above 70%. Its not that big of a deal I think. All of my friends have tint and noones been pulled over for it. Its more of a secondary thing I think. I only know one person at my school who has had to remove it.

Notwithstanding the legal issue, I see tons of cars/trucks everyday on the freeway in SoCal with REAL DARK tint. Like others have said, keep your nose clean and you won't be bothered.

Window tint ghetto? Maybe the silver tint or the kind that's obviously done by someone who hasn't a clue in what they were doing.

My tint is 5% on the back and 15% on the fronts and it offers privacy, security (it's very hard to see into my truck) and it keeps the heat down by over 20% in the summer and protects the interior from UV rays. It's more function than form when done right.

Here's a picture of my 'ghetto' ride.

55%. It looks lighter than the rear windows because I took the picture in the middle of the afternoon with the moonroof open. Otherwise, it's a pretty close match all the way around. It is a little bit darker looking out than the privacy glass since it's tint film.

other than looking darker as you look out, does the color match up with the back? Before I did 15 up front and it appeared to match but sometimes looked darker and the tint to the glass looking out was different than the back

I have Limo tint all around my 4Runner. It did the job in the windows that had the factory tinted glass...now that's "ghetto". I'll be laughing when I'm nice and cool in my DARK toyota compared to those who don't tint.

The picture was taken at dusk but you'll get an idea of how your rig will look with limo tint all around.

The actual color matches very well. I heard someone saying something about the window appearing green or something so I was a little concerned, but the color on the front windows match the privacy glass very well. I forgot the brand name of the film they used, but they had that Llumar and the stuff I got on my windows. I'm going down there today and I'll ask them again and post the brand name of the film when I get home tonight.

Here's another picture from another angle.

sweet! thanks... I was goign to do it today but I'll wait till you find out what brand they used and I'll just go with that

OK. I was wrong about the %. The film I got was 35% Madico tint film not 55%. I really like the 5% Limo, but I was afraid that I would have a difficult time seeing out at night.
