Tint

What's the going rate for putting on tint on our vehicles in Michigan?

I'm thinking of getting just the back window tinted 5%.

I drive a '97 model, the current tint looks kind of brown instead of black, but that could be because I have light leather seats.

But I think all '97 models have the same shade of tint right? Then you guys know what I'm talking about then.

Is it worth it to put double 5% on the back window?

I know the second gens had a bronze tint but I don't know if that carried over to the third gens. I used to have 5% on my rear window but took it off because it was too hard to see out the back at night. I have 20% over the factory tint now and have no problems woth night visibility

Brown tint? I don't think any 3rd gens came with that.

Why do you want to do just your back window? I would either do the back three or the front two.

Double 5% is really dark. You would probably not be able to see out at night.

I had my two front windows done for $60. If you went for double 5% I think they would charge you twice since they are having to put two layers on, not sure though.

You guys are lucky. In Vancouver, BC, Canada, you are not allowed to have tinted windows (unless came like that) on the driver's window and passenger's window. The same for clear corners: it's a no no. Or a metal frame, like a chain one, around your license plate that might obstruct their view...

There are tint laws in all states. The major let you have at least 35% on the front two. I think the lowest LEGAL % is 20%, but that is only in one state.

The 4Runner has bronze glass. Not necessarily the factory tint, but the actual glass itself. Most vehicles are either blue or green. Have you ever looked at the top edge of a car window and noticed they look green? Well that's because they are. The 4Runner however is bronze glass. This shouldn't really effect the tint though.

To the OP, I got 20% on my front two windows and it matches the rear pretty good. Haven't had any trouble from the popo's either.

edit: Also, I agree with Clemson that double 5 is going to be incredibly dark and hard to see out of at night. Also might make thieves think you have something to hide... Just some things to think about.
