Not only will price vary greatly -- but so will quality of materials used and quality of work! Make sure it has the DOT approved sticker visible or police could fine you and DMV fail you on safety inspection.

i looked up the laws for any of the three states my car might be in/registered in...and i dont need the sticker...it varies from state to state...

In Massachusetts, the law is 30% tint, so thats what I have. Only did the front and it cost $100, sounds over priced but it was cut by a vinyl cutter and to the specs of the vehicle with some program tint tech. Anyways, I'm happy with the results.

the legal limit in NC is 35% on the front 2 and 0% on the rears.

i had 5% on my front 2 installed and 5% over my stock 20% installed on the rears, cost me $60 becausei go there so much and their tint is the best tint i have ever seen.

You will quickly realize that some companies use tint that isnt very good and you can tell because they will tint your windows at 5% and you can see very easily in, this is thin, cheap tint.

normally here in NC the best tint is the tint at the beach, they get the darkest there, i also heard sunny states like FL and TX also have some of the darkest tint. So ask to see a sample IN PERSON, not a picture and it should look as follows(for good tint):

35% - you can see through fine but when in a shady spot the tint will be noticable.

20% - you will be able to see a sillouette and facial features in the sunlight.

15% - you can see a sillouette but no facial features in the sunlight.

5% - nothing, this is blacked out unless you dont have a banner on the front and the sun is setting/rising and shining in your front windshield, then you can somewhat see through the side front windows.

hope this helps!!

I read in the manual that tinting the windows could create problems with the navigation. anyone have any experiences with this?

$70 for just the front two windows. It matches the rear windows from the outside, but from the inside looking out the front two windows are slightly darker.

I got a seperate manual to go with the nav and one of the warning labels said window tint could affect the nav system. Im assuming only in some very small cases. I know its crazy.

I had the two front windows tinted with 15% and I have perfect reception with the navigation. The factory unit's reception is as good as my garmin unit that uses a roof-mounted antenna, so don't worry about the window tint.

I believe the nav manual is referring to tinting the windshield could affect nav unit reception, since the nav antenna is mounted at the base of the windshield in the leading edge of the dash.

im lookin at 20% on the front two...and 0% on the back ones...i already had $1000 of stereo equipment jacked...so its not just cosmetic for me...also for security...the place im lookin at uses 3M...i know it is a big company...that makes lots of different things...but i have no idea how good their tints are...anyone have 3M?

Metallic tint will interfere with navigation and satellite radio reception. Ceramic tint should not affect reception at all. Ceramic tint is also more expensive. Huper Optik will not affect reception, but 30% is the darkest it gets. Huper Optik has one of the best heat and UV rejection rates. Llumar also has a film out that won't affect reception.

oh ok that makes sense, i never thought about it because that is an illegal tint here in NC and thats obvious if you have it.

I actually was asked by a cop the other day to take my tint off my front 2 windows or he would write me a citation, so i took it off and got it re-done today at 20% and a banner across the front and the guy installing it used a heat gun on my banner and cracked my windshield with the heat.

needless to say hes sending someone out to my work tomorow to replace the windshield and take care of it. All in all he was a nice guy and had my windows and banner done in less than 25 min and did a great job too.

how much did u pay for your 20%?...do u have 20% all the way around?...just tryin to get an idea on price...im in CO...so u dont have to worry about me hasslin the guy if he gave u a good price...

middle way expensive for our town around here. But thats what i expected for a first timer at any tint shop.

$100 for front 2 at 20% and 5" banner of 5%

i had already had 5% all the way around installed in wilmington NC when i was in college and later took off the 5% on the front 2 due to cops and it was hard to see at night.

i can see so much easier out of the 20% and it still looks decent from the outside.

now for the 5% all the way around i paid $200 because i had gone there so many times before trying different percent tints
