Tips of changing fuel filter on 22R-E engine

I am planning to change the fuel filter on my 1995 Toyota 4-Runner,22R-E,5 speed manual,4x4 and would like some tips on changing it.Here is some info I learned from the factory service manual and Google searches:

-Make sure engine is cold
-Disconnect battery
-Have fire extinguisher
-Have drip pan and lots of old rags
-Remove gas cap to depressurize fuel system
-Spray banjo fittings (union nuts & bolts as Toyota calls it) with a deep penetrating lube hours prior to unbolting them slowly
-Have an LED flashlight and NOT AN ORDINARY SHOP LIGHT
-Unbolt back fuel line first slowly then front one slowly,then unbolt nuts that support filter to engine block
-Spray disconnected banjo fittings with a deep penetrating lube
-Re-tighten both fuel lines to torque spec but since torque wrench cannot access the hardware,retighten them until the shiny threads of the hardware are not exposed

Should I while engine is running disconnect fuel pump fuse to run fuel lines dry or is that not a good thing?,should I remove the front passenger tire,wheel well compartment,starter (disconect battery) to access fuel filter?.Thanks.

changed mine yesterday, take the wheel off the passanger side, their is small part of the wheel tun (panel) that can be removed thats held on by 4 screws. then remove the gas line bango bolts that are on bothe ends of the filter, (Make sure you notice how the filter is placed, don't put it on backwards when replacing), they are kinda hard to reach, its easier to take out the oil filter, the one that farther back will have to be taken on with a wrench and not a socket. Then remove the bolts that hold the filter in place which are also kinda fun to go get hehe. Top one i used an air rachet since its kinda imposible to get, i didn't put it back on when i replaced it, the botom one will hold it fine its not heavy enough just make sure its tight. O yha make sure you disconect your batery, never know what could hapen, safety firs , you are working with gasoline here. WHen you fire it back up let the fuel pump run a thew minutes to fill up the gas lines and filter and make sure when you put the filter in, one washer goes before the gas line and one after the gas line. THats it good luck, will take you a good 1-2 hours, its tight in their lol.

Tie a rag around your arm just before your elbow. It will stop the gas from running all the way down to your shirt.

Safety gogles! Gas in the eyeball sucks and hurts.

Don't let gas stick to your skin via soaked clothes or your rag (the one on your elbow).

If gas is left on the skin to long it can cause a chemical burn. That cold you feel isn't freezing cold gas it's the burn. Run water over the area for 15 mins. easiest to just shower.

Flash light isn't a big deal just do it during the day.

You left out the most important step..... Pick up a 12 pack from the liquor store, open, drink, and repeat:cheers:

i think its pretty stupid to put the filter in this location, out of all the places lol first time i see under the hood, have changed them before on other cars, they have always been next to the gas thank or along the frame rail.

The most important step you have listed there is to crack the gas cap. Trust me, it will spew for an hour if you forget that step.

Other than that just do what you have listed there and have plenty of patience. I have a body lift on my truck and can do it in 15 minutes now. I feel for you.

Btw, I've seen several people relocate it to the fender pretty easily. If you want to consider doing something like that now is the time to do it. There is no real reason that it is on the block...
