The thing is tho' that the body isn't strong enough to hold it up, so you gotta put something inside to support it.
Maybe if you take a look inside the bronco and see how the support is there, just make it abit more stronger than that.
Personally, I'd rather replace the rear bumper and make it so I could have the tire rack bolted/welded on that.
But of course, I don't carry spares, and the few times I do (During "rescue" missions that need extra tire for the one bein' "rescued") I keep on the roof rack.
It's abit scary with the 44" up there tho'
But <38" should be okay on the roof.

But I think there are some from Rhino and Thule, not sure if ARB has some... I'd do a google search for "roof racks" and you'll prolly find plenty.
FYI, I mixed my roof "rack" out of profile pipes and the roof bows (what's the english word over this? The chrome stuff on top of my rig) and used U-bolts from wire clamps (for really huge tow wires like in cranes) to fit it on.

31x10.5 tire fits underneath the truck in the stock location. i've got one under there as well as a hitch.

How were you able to get a tow hitch and a 31 inch tire? All of the tow hitches I've seen say they won't fit with a 31 inch under-mounted tire.
I'm trying to add a second spare (undermounted) and a tow hitch. Currently, it has one rear mounted spare and I bought a 90 4Runner for off-roading in Baja.

AFAIK, the Leaf spring suspension takes less space than the coils, because of the upper links, the frame piece that holds 'em is bigger than in the 1st gen, so that could be the reason, I'm not sure tho'.
I've seen 33s fitted under there with great pain and bashing, I can't remember where tho'.

)I'd think tho by cuttin' abit from the pieces that are between the frame's sides and re"making" them or putting pipes between instead 31s should fit there. Also you could just "redesign" the hitch holder, but I assume your not as crazy as I am, nor a very good welder. (assumin' if you were you'd have done this already...
)

My 31" is under my 4Runner and I dont have a hitch but since I have a "Mystery Bumper" on the back of my 4Runner, not sure what its from but the hole in the bumper that you stick the rod with the hook through to crank down the spare tire doesnt match up with the link at all. The link is off to the drivers side but the hole in my "Mystery Bumper" only lets you stick the rod in straight, perpendicular to the bumper.
Anyways, because of this it is a pain in the butt to get the spare tire out (I dont like having it under there anyways) so I am going to get a roof basket installed and put it up there until I can afford to buy a bumper and tire swing from Big Country Customs. I havent done alot of research yet but I know I eventually want the custom bumper with a tire swing, where I'll get one; Im not sure yet.
