Tire Decision

I am buying new tires this coming week to go with my new lift and FJ wheels. I'm 99% set on BFG AT 265/70's. Everything I've read about them is positive, people I've talked to that own them love them, they look good and last a long time. Most of the miles on them will be on road unless I can find some nice trails around my area.

Do any of you guys have any negative comments about them or have another tire that you swear by that I need to check out?

I swear by my duratracs. Read the reviews for them. Great allaround tire. Much better in snow than bfgs.

I have duratracs on my runner and bfg all terrains on my jeep. I'll be replacing the bfgs with duratracs before winter.
 
I swear by my BFG's! Ive got them on both my V8 4Runner Sport Editions!

Had the Dun-flops on the 03 and put the BFG's on a 30k. It has 90k now, still plenty of tread!

Now if only i could find a decent used spare of ANY kind!....
 
I picked duratracs between them and bfg, and I couldn't be happier, but I have no comment for the bfg's though.
 
The duratracs were definitely high on my list because they look awesome and everybody on here that has them loves them. Snow traction doesn't matter, rarely snows in Nashville. My only hesitation with them is road noise. I realize BFG's aren't gonna be as quiet as a highway tire, but the duratracs have got to be fairly loud with that tread pattern. Are they?
 
How about Cooper Discoverer AT3's? I'm leaning towards these.

Gave the link to all the Cooperation in that size so you can see the different load ratings/etc. I personally will be going standard load (P).
 
If you're that set on the BFG's I'd just get those, you'll drive yourself crazy considering all of the options. Those tires are tried and tested and you'll love them I'm sure.
 
I just talked to my neighbor who has an F250 with the BFG's on it. He swears by them and is going to give me a ride in his truck. Hopefully that will ease my mind about the road noise. I'll post pics with the decision.
 
I'm trying to decide the same thing right now. my only concern is the mileage out of the Duratracs. It seems people get 40-50k max out of them where the bfg can easily reach 75K+. still haven't made up my mind yet though
 
BFG T/A KO's hands down are the best all terrain IMO (and probably millions of other satisfied customers)

But then again you know what they say about opinions.
 
Im also a fan of the raised white lettering on the BFG's!

I wish they made a P rated version... If they did, it would be a no brainer. I just prefer a ride that is not as stiff. But maybe its not as stiff as I'm thinking. Wish I could sample test on my ride.

The duratracs are actually very quiet for such and aggressive tread. I don't notice it at all around town and barely hear them at highway speed.
 
ive inspected duratacs and BFG's 265/70 (load C) off the rims at a local tire shop. the sidewalls if the BFG's are noticeably stiffer and thicker than the duratracs (both load C) probably much better for towing the boat in your sig. wet traction and quietness ive read on various "bfg vs duratrac" threads is better with the duratracs, but i think you'll get more milage out of the BFG's with your uses. i think duratracs are aimed for wheeling more than a street tire, which is why so many people swear by them here.

PS. sick boat btw, my buddy has that same boat in black. i'm not much of a wake boarder but i've heard thats one of the best hulls for wake boarding. this is coming from people with Sanger 215, Wake setter, etc they all love the SAN.

I would say that you have made up your mind on the bfg's and they are terrific tires that do exactly what they were designed to. You'll have better handling out them also compared to the dura's when pulling that boat as well. Coming from someone who has ran both tires.

Thanks man. I'm not as much of a wake boarder as I used to be. Mostly wake skate now.

I'd have to say that BFG KO's are the benchmark when it comes to an A/T tire. My brother had them on his Tundra and they were fantastic! Good road manners, good in all types of driving (wet, dry, on road, off road), and lasted FOREVER. There have been 3 sets of tires on that truck, the stock Dunflops, which were horrible. I think they lasted him something like 20K. I had a set of those and they may have lasted me less than that. There are Nitto Terra Grapplers on it now... Can't say that I'm a fan. He possibly got 50K out of those but I don't think it was that much. He got every bit of 75K out of the KO's though.

For my next set though, I'm pretty sure T4R.org has got me sold on the Duratracs. Man I'm in love with those things. Either way, when you're talking Goodyear, BFG, or Michelin (the big three), you're gonna get a quality product. You're gonna pay a premium as well though.

One of the truck rags had a huge issue of tire reviews and the Duratracs were favored and scored higher in most of the tests vs the BFGs especially in the snow and ice.
 
I put on 275/70/17 Cooper AT3s 2 days ago. I was torn between these and BFG AT KO but the fact the BFG are E and the Cooper are C or E, I went with the C tire and they were much cheaper, better warranty. They look great too!

If you do decide to go with BFG, find the best price in town, then take it to sears and they will beat it by 10%. I actually could have had BFG's for 50.00 more than the Cooper but like I said, I wanted the C rated tire, not the rough riding E.
