Tire Decisions: What to buy and where to buy 'em?

The 2008 I got a couple days ago had 4 new tires put on it by the dealer. Unfortunately they are the Dunflops AT20 craps.

I stopped at Town Fair Tire in my area and they had just about everything. I took a liking to the Yokohama AT's but wanted to get T4R.ORG member's 2 cents on what they like and where they got their best deal.

Town Fair offered me $89 a piece for the Dunflops that are on it now btw.

Im not much of a 4-wheeling guy, and i dont do much highway driving, so id like something thats great on snow, ice and on water at high speeds.

I wouldn't buy from Tire Rack for the reason in the link, but that's just me. Always had good luck at Discount Tire but it's much better to know what you want in advance instead being overly reliant on their advice.

Tire decisions are among the most important you can make. And there are many opinions here. It does depend on your location and the type of weather you will encounter. Be specific and I'm sure you will get quite a few responses. As well to a search for tires on t4r and that will help a lot.

i got my 265/70 goodyear tracker 2's for $99 each with the 4th free from walmart. with a free mount and balance. so just a little over $300 with tax.

they are awesome on snow, ice, and dirt but can also do highway without problem and are smooth

I am on my third 4Runner (over 400,000 miles total of all types of roads and weather) and have had a multitude of different tires. I agree with your Dunflop comments! My second worse experience was with Yokohamas, they were terrible on icy/snowy roads. Plus had to fight with them over warranty issues and they refused to stand behind their product. The bands shifted in the tires and they went out of round. There was no way to balance them after about 7,000 miles. What I later found out is that they were probably improperly shipped which ultimately damaged the tire internally, which showed up after time. The best tire I have found so far is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. I ran Bridgestone Dueler A/T's (aggressive tread pattern) before trying the Revo's. The Revo's seem to be a little more quiet.

Besides a family tire shop in Mission Viejo, California, the best place I have found to buy tires is Discount Tires. Just can't beat their service and warranty.

Im running BFG's Radial T/A's on our '03 V8 T4R, and thos have been great. Around 25k on these tires, and still PLENTY of rubber on them. I'll probably just go with those.

I'll search for a Discount Tire around here, but im in western mass and ive never seen one of those around.

Discount and America Tire are the same company. There is one in Springfield.

Not according to their website, google or citysearch. Springfield, IL. perhaps, but not Massachusetts.

Town Fair Tire has some guarantee, where no one can beat their tire prices. Tirerack.com has the same tires at $148 each (BFG Radial Long Trail T/A) while Town Fair has em at $179, according to their website. Im going to keep shopping, but I know i know I KNOW they'll throw some double talk at me, "well, blah blah we include blah blah". At any rate, i hate going and having a salesman ask, "you could put a deposit down today and we'll order them for you". Dude, Im shopping for tires. Dont tell me when i should dip into my friggin wallet. Punk.

Good call.....Sears actually has the BFG's i like for $147...a buck less than Tire Rack! I wonder if any of these places have "we'll beat anyone's price by blah blah percent!" kinda guarantees...?

Well if you are in that price range take a look at the Pirelli Scorpions....can't go wrong IMO.
