Tire “look” on narrow vs wider wheel

I heard the tire looks different depending on the rim width. I’m guessing a wider rim gives it a “squarer” profile whereas a narrower rim looks more rounded (like a bicycle tire?).

That got me thinking, is there enough of a difference that I should purposely get say 8.5” wheels instead is using my stock trail 7.5” wheels if I got 285/70/17?

Wondering if we have good pictures or examples here where we can compare?

I've heard the 7.5" width is the minimum you want to go on 285/70's. I am getting mine mounted and balanced on my stock trail rims this week, can post pictures when done.

Yes yes.. I know a 7.5” wheel is the minimum recommended for 285/70. I know some people still run 7” wide wheels with possible increased wear in the center of the tread. I also know a narrower wheel may hold the tire better with low PSI’s.

Was just wondering if it was a noticeable difference in “appearance,” And if there were good comparison pics, or if anyone noticed a huge difference themselves...
