Anybody have their tires mounted and balanced at Walmart? They only want $11 per tire with free rotation and lifetime balance. Called a Goodyear dealer and they wanted $30 per tire. Just got a set of Cooper ATP's from Discount Tire and looking to get them put on. Local car dealer wants $70 for all 4

Why not take them to Discount Tire? Every tire I've ever gotten from them came with lifetime balance and rotation...I would assume that with purchase they'll mount for free too.

Ah...well take it to Walmart then. Should be a fairly easy process with those tires...they're not 35s so it should be easy to mount and balance. If it comes with lifetime balance and free rotation, you can always go back if they don't get it right the first time.
Are there any private owner tire shops around? Those places are usually pretty reasonable too.

Don't do it! Walmart's an evil corporation and doesn't pay their employees enough to feed themselves!!
Just kidding. My dad works the tire lube express at walmart. No problems with it, it'll be fine. Mount and balance ain't rocket science.
Guess what? Walmart will not mount these tires because they are not the same size as what's on there now. Presently have 245's and the ATP's are 265's. Had to go to Farmers Alliance and ended up paying $89 including tire disposal. Oh Well, so much for the $ I saved at Discount Tire.

On a similar note...A couple weeks ago I picked up a nail near Deming NM. It was early Sunday morning and figured most tire shops closed but I found a weird old truck stop open and headed in. Charged me $25 to patch it...a bit steep but under the circumstances and another 500 miles to go well worth it.
The cool part was he did it by hand with tire irons! I watched carefully and think I could do it now. I wouldn't do it with brand new tires...but in a pinch an invaluable skill and the guy made it look VERY easy. Said he routinely does it with 18 wheelers and they are easier; big tires=easier.
Now I just have to find tire irons some where....

Walmart follows the book. They will not install tires that are not in the book for that vehicle, they dont want to get sued, not to mention you need almost no experience to get hired. I have gone there three times because they where cheap.
First time was on my Eagle Talon. Z rated stock tires. They could not mount because it was too low pro and didnt want to damage tires or rims after making me wait 3 hours, even though they where stock sized tires.
Second time was 265's on my stock rims. They made me wait 3 hours and once installed they put the white out instead of black and had to do it again.
Third time was 285's on my wifes Expedition. Thats only one tire size over for her vehicle. They refused to do it and acted like I was stupid and that they wouldnt fit.
Also there balance weights like to fall off, stay away from walmart for auto work!
