Tire Order Conundrum

This isn't the usual "which size tire do I need" post.

I bought 5 315/70R17 Mastercraft Courser MXT's on Amazon for $1360 shipped at 11:30 this morning.

My brother showed me a deal discount tire direct was running, 5 315/70R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers for $875 after a few rebates. I canceled my Amazon order and bought these instead at 11pm.

The problem arose when I found the email from Amazon stating they couldn't cancel my order, it was too far along, but I already put in my order for the Trail Grapplers. What do you guys think? Will Amazon let me return the MXT's?

was it Prime?

Sorry, yes it was fulfilled by Amazon with Prime. Just sent an email to Amazon which is probably what I should have done in the first place, I was just really freaking out but I'm guessing Amazon will take a return without a restocking fee based on my previous good return experiences with them.

Hopefully Amazon didn't ship them yet. They like to charge return shipping if the order problem isn't a seller error.

Amazon emailed me back minutes after I emailed them at 12:36 at night on the 4th of July. Here are the options they gave me, I'll update with what works:

1. Once you receive the shipping confirmation mail, write back to us and we will contact the carrier directly and try to cancel the delivery and refund you instantly.

2. You can refuse this shipment when it arrives. Refusing the shipment allows you to return it without having to arrange for return shipping.

If Amazon receives a carrier notification indicating the package was refused, we'll process your refund at that time.

I haven't returned anything that huge, but they usually charge a discounted rate for return shipping. The UPS rate they pay is something like 75% off the retail rate.

That's a good deal there. I guess the 285/70/17's are more popular since they are $100 more per tire. I bought new wheels and tires from discount last week. Hopefully getting them this week to install. The 285/70/17 ridge grapplers were $229 a tire before the $75 rebate. And the wheels have a $100 rebate.

This actually has gotten more complicated, partially my fault again...

Discount tire asked me to call and they said the Trail Grapplers are out of stock, they sold out stupid fast. He offered me 5 of the Hankook Dynapro MT for around $1000 after rebates, over $300 of savings vs the Mastercraft MXT's on Amazon. I (perhaps stupidly) took his offer so I still need to deal with canceling the MXT's from Amazon but the Dynapro MT's should arrive Monday maybe Tuesday in time to be installed for my trip.

Amazon has pretty good customer service. I've got a few things refunded to me that I thought were gonna be tough to get my money back. You could always just tell them you accidentally ordered the wrong tire size and that's why you need to cancel. Good luck man.

I think you're still solid. The dynapros look good. You still got a pretty good price too. Soon you'll be done with this and you'll have some sweet looking new tires on.

Update:

I never received a "your order has shipped, it's tracking number is..." email from Amazon, so I didn't catch it in time at that point. I happened to be at home on my lunch break when the UPS guy showed up and started scanning the tires and putting them on his dolly. I rushed out there, apologized, and explained I would like to refuse this order. He said, "Ok" and started loading them back in his truck. The full $1360 refund is on its way from Amazon.

My 5 Hankook Dynapro MT's from discount tire direct should arrive Monday, get installed and aligned Tuesday or Wednesday, and then I'm off to Moab early Thursday.

$229 a tire? I can't find this deal

Yup they were at that price for 2 days and then back up. On top of that they were giving $75 off a set of 4 with free shipping. I get my wheels and tires on Tuesday.

Well F! Would have been all over that! Was it DiscountDirect? I'll watch for it, planning on the $100 off $450 purchase in Oct

Yes it was. You can try to call them and tell them you missed the deal and want to order at that price. Doesn't hurt to ask.
