Tire pressure too high?

Im headed down to Virginia tomorrow morning and decided to fill the tires up with some air since they looked a little floppy. The sidewall on the tires say max 51 PSI. I only the drove the 4R a half mile to the gas station for air and filled them up to 48 PSI. Is this too high? Do I run the risk of a blow out as the tires warm up and reach ~80MPH on the highway? Ive read that the max PSI recommendation for tires is always the cold tire number (meaning before the tires are driven and warmed up) so shouldnt I be fine?

Yes, I know that 48 in general is on the high end but I hate how the car drives when tire pressures are below 45 on my Hankooks. Just something I noticed with these tires.

I remember that the Manual says 32psi for cold tire pressure.

I never run my tires over 35 PSI. You might call the Mfg. of your tires and ask them what they recommend.

The manual is for stock tires so that doesn't apply to these. I run my DuraTrac at 38psi on the pavement so 48 sounds high to me, what's shown on the sidewall?

From what i understand whats put on the side is max cold psi that the tire could take. Anything above that would be a risk for a blowout. Once the tire heats up. My firstone at says 44 psi max and thats what i ran. Feels better for me and i get a little more mpg.

Yea, the manual is for stock from the factory tires. My BFG states 50psi cold. I run 40psi on mine because anything less it get squirmy and too much would result in rough ride.

When I was an alignment tech, we used to fill the tires to max - 10% or so. So max 44, I'd fill to 40. Max 51, I'd fill to 45. etc. I'd say you're fine.

going by the sidewall will be more accurate. if it says 51psi, then you can safely run 51psi.

that doesn't mean it will handle/wear/ride well, but the tire will be safe at that pressure.
