tire question

I'm looking to get a set of BFG all terrains at 265/70/17, and noticed that on discounttire.com they had one set for $177 and a another set for $187 both were same size and load range C, the only difference i saw was the ones for $187 had a speed rating of R, while the ones for $177 a tire had a speed rating of QR, not sure what the difference is between both ratings are? I hope someone can help me out with this. THANKS

BTW is this my first post on any forum, I own a 2004 SR5 black 4Runner, Moonroof, SideCurtain Airbags, Steering whell controls, 10 speaker JBL, auto dimming compass mirror, double deck cargo, 17 alloys. Mods that i had done have been, color-keyed mirrors and added a spoiler

Not sure of the combo rating letters but here are BF Goodrich speed ratings from their website:

The speed rating indicating that the maximum speed at which the tyre can carry a load corresponding to its load rating is xxx km/h.
The speed ratings of BFGoodrich tyres are as follows :
Q : 99 mph,
R : 106 mph
S : 112 mph
T : 118 mph
H : 131 mph
VR : > >131 mph
V : 149 mph
ZR : > >149 mph.
W : 168 mph
Y : 186 mph

Thanks Tucson T4R, I currently have 38K on my stock dunlops and im looking to replace them with BFG all terrains within the next couple weeks, I"ll probabaly get the set with the speed rating R they seem more common thanks again.

Could you tell me how those BFG's ride on the highway, I was at a discount tire shop today right about to have them install a set of BFG A/T KO load range C 265/70/17, when a tech came in and spoke to me about all the problems they have putting BFG's on toyotas (4Runner,sequioa,highlander) stating that the front ends are senstive, and numerous times customers have had them pull them off. He stated the vibrations were really bad at highway speeds, and the ride was a whole lot rougher ride. Any feedback from you or the others who run BFG's A/T would be greatly appreciated. I dont mind a little stiffer ride or more truck ride than compared to the dunlops, but the tech made it seem a whole much more than just that.

I have had no problems with balancing or alignment. They have run run smoothly without any vibration problems for me.

Because they are designed as an offroad tire, they are stiffer than the dunlaps and if you are looking for a soft street tire, you may not like the stiffness of an off road AT type tire.

For a tough offroad tire that also performs well on the road at highway speeds without much noise like some aggresive offroad tires, they are great.

The "feel" of a tire is very personal. If you plan to use your 4Runner offroad but still want good perfomance as a DD on the road I recommend these tires. If you plan to use your 4runner primarily on the street and want maximum street comfort then an AT type tire may not be the right choice for you.

As far as AT type tires go....these are a great choice IMHO.

Thanks Brad, like I said I dont mind a more stiiff ride, but was concerened about any harsh vibrations, I belive the tech thought that I was getting a smooth riding street tire, so perhaps he kind of exaggerated the ride of the BFG's. I belive the pros out way the cons for me, 1- it is a very good looking tire 2- it will give me that half inch to an inch clearance, and 3- from what I hear it is the best A/T offroad tire. I dont mind sacrificing more of a stiff ride, and will go back this week and have them put on, thanks again for the feedback.
