tire roatation and wheel torque?

Just something my dad had done since the mid 80's that kind of got passed along. The studs can take it for sure, never had a single one shear, so why not I guess?

Do not do it on newer stuff though, when we first got my Mom's FJ my dad went to torque it up and sheared 3 studs right off. Stick to 84 on those.

FYI, the stud thread pitch on both the FJs and 4runners are 12mm x 1.50. You technically are just as likely to break the studs by over-torquing the bolts on both vehicles.

I know, but the studs on the newer stuff are shorter, so probably have less thread engagement which caused the 3 to break.

perhaps are made out of a different material, or hardness as well.
