Tire rubbing

Does anyone else get tire rubbing when the steering wheel is turned all the way and you hit a bump or come into a parking lot? I want to go up to 265/70/17 but fear that if the stock tire is doing this it can only get worse. And from everything I read, no lift is necessary for the tire upsize. Any words of advice are appreciated. Lastly, do I have to use a Toyota dealer to calibrate odometer/speedometer if I go with the bigger tire?

If you're rubbing with stock size tires, assuming you DON'T have aftermarket rims or wheel spacers, something is wrong. You probably need an alignment at least. I rubbed with 265/70/17 but I have rims with a different offset. Moving the fender liner forward and removing the front mudflaps completely took care of it. As for calibrating the speedometer? Most don't worry about it. But if it really bothers you, search "speedohealer".

Drive the corner that you think is rubbing onto something elevated (stack a few 2x4's) with the wheel turned. Park it and get out to See see exactly what is rubbing. If it is the fender liner just move it forward as njshadow mentioned.

If you are on stock tires/wheels and have rubbing issues you have bigger problems. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the feedback. I took it to a mechanic and it was hitting what he referred to as the 'stop.' It just skims it briefly. He said it's there to prevent you from hitting deep holes or slots with the car completely turned. I feel a bit more comfortable going up to 265/70/17 now so long as I am aware of that. And he said it doesn't really cause damage, but it's there rather as a warning.

Toyota 4Runner Wheel Spacers

I followed the tips in that excellent write-up and have no rubbing issues whatsoever. I run 265x70x17 AT tires with spidertrax.
