tire spec differences

Man, this is a good question. Keep waiting as I'm betting someone will answer it in a couple of days. I'm very interested in the answer also. Again, good question!

Isn't this the load rating on the tire? Load for the C1 tire on the BFG site shows this for a load rating:

LT265/70R17/C 112R RWL 12665 7 - 8.5 10.7 on 8 31.8 16 654 2470@50

Where the D1 tire show this for a load rating:

LT285/70R17/D 121R BSW 14517 7.5 - 9 11 on 8 32.7 16 636 3195@65

I know these are two different sizes, (265 vs 285), so the load rating between two identical tires may not be as drastic as these two... D,E are usually truck tires for pickups where ride quality is not as important, but towing/cargo capacity is.

Most C rated tires aren't considered LT tires and yes,D load and higher mean a stiffer ride and support for heavier loads. D load rated tires aren't too bad for vehicles under 5000lbs but E will ride very stiff for a 4Runner vehicle size.
