tire step

Anyone use a tire step on their Runner? How do you like it? Which one is best?

In my opinion it's not really needed. I just step on top of the tire and pull myself up using the roof rack. But, everyones a little different.

I like them because I'm too short to step on top of my tires safely while trying to maintain the illusion of being a dainty girl (with a bad-ass truck).

I don't know which one is best, though. Just get whatever one feels like it will hold your weight without slipping!

I also just step on the tire and pull myself up by the rack... but I For a little extra lift I think a small collapsable footstool would be more useful and cheaper.

Why would you need one ? Do you haul stuff on top often ???

Also ever considered a hitch step ? And you might get a little bumper protection to from a parking lot or people parallel parking......just a thought.

I just thought it might provide a decent step (better then the tire top) for loading. But I wanted some feedback first. Could even be useful up front for anything to do on the engine.

I have not carried much on the roof, but bikes will be residing uptop eventually, as well as a possible cargo basket. During the summer I see lots of roof-top carrying requirements. I also want to carry fuel outside the vehicle (it always smells a little when inside). I'm also considering a bumper basket, but I don't think it would survive the off-road trip to the lake.

I like the idea of the bumper step as well. Might put it on the wish-list.

I use the tire step in the winter when I'm skiing/snowboarding. I can't reach the back strap on my roof rack from my running boards.

A regular stool isn't stable on uneven terrain of an icy parking lot. So for $20, I'll stick with the tire step.

With using the roof rack for the thing's you described it would'nt be a bad idea.

I'm tall enough that I don't need a step. The 4Runner's height is not that tall. Now I've never cleaned a Suburban or Expedition before..... lol :bash: That could be another story.
