Tire wear

Has anyone had success getting a tire manufacturer to replace tires with extreme and uneven wear? They're Michelin Pilot Sport a/s 3 (45k mile warranty), less than 9k miles on them, rotated once. Driver rear is 0/32, passenger rear is 4/32, driver front is 8/32, and passenger front is 6/32. I have documentation that a 4 wheel alignment was performed when the new tires were balanced and mounted, but recent check shows alignment in the rear is way out.

Anyone have experience with issues like this? Able to get replacements under warranty? Has anyone been able to get different replacement tires?

I might have caught this sooner if I drove my wife's car with any frequency.. alas.

Holy...she hard on it? Aggressive accelerating or braking? Maybe a burnout or 2?

But to answer your question, if you have proof of purchase they should prorate it based on the amount of miles you didn't get, but most will not replace them free of charge.

I work at a tire shop and there's no way with proper settings and no damaged parts should you wear tires that quick and at that wide of a range. What kinda of vehicle is this on?

agree 100% with this with one exception. the possibility of poor tire formulation with that batch. It can happen. If the mix of chemicals in the tires that day was not right this could happen.

Definitely strange either way. I would call Michelin directly and talk to them about this.

Agreed, pretty rare scenario.

That's what warranties are for. If you had a 60,000 mile warranty and only got 9,000 miles, you should get an 85% refund on that tire or something like that. Hopefully you took the time to see if the warranty was any good when you bought the tires...

Tire warranty does not come into play if there is damage to the suspension or steering parts

First thing I'd do is find out why the rear alignment is "way out" (and, btw, how far is "way out"). That shouldn't happen in the life of the vehicle. If you've got broken or severely worn suspension components, tire wear is the least of your worries. I'd be skeptical that the vehicle is safe to drive.
