Tired of My stock seats- what are my options?

Hello everyone!

Im using my 1990 (2nd gen) 4runner for Overlanding/prerunning now and would like to know my options for seat swapping.

Even if this means taking out the center console and putting in some big comfy 90's chevy tahoe seats or something with more lumbar support.

I would just like to know who's done what and whats the cheapest way to get some nice seats whether they be comfy and not too agressive bucket, or something bigger with a built in center console.

FJ Cruiser seats

I have 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser seats in my '86 4R. They're incredibly comfortable and supportive. I drove 1700 miles over Labor Day weekend and never felt like I needed to get out of the truck due to a uncomfortable seat. I also feel like they have good support for wheeling. They're kind of expensive ... if you can find them. I think it'll be about $750-1000 (at a salvage yard) for all four seats (2 fronts and the split back seat).

o'reiley's racing seats are 150 a piece i think. havent sat in them so i dont know how cushy and comfy they are, but its an option

How difficult was adapting the FJ seats into your 86?

Of course, but If i know what to look for this might make things easier.

for example if 3 or even 4 bolt holes line up. whats too tall, whats too short. what works with the stock rails. etc....

Isnt that the whole point of this forum? to be effective and efficient in my time.
 
I've got Scion TC seats in mine. They are super comfy, have great support, and nice adjustability too. I've got an FJ and will agree they're nice too. Mine did not bolt up, but weren't bad to fab brackets. They cost me $200 at a local yard. There are pics in my thread, or I can snap some tomorrow. We did 6k miles in 2 weeks plus wheeling in moab, Colorado, Wyoming, and south Dakota this past july, and a similar trip last year. I couldn't imagine the same trip in the original seats. I'd love to try some of the corbeau baja reclining seats.
 
Infiniti QX4 seats are AMAZING, been running mine a long time now in my 3rd gen and couldn't imagine having anything else, power heated leather (Very easy to wire up too), I was able to adapt all the stock brackets to the 3rd gen with some bending, drilling and a tiny bit of welding, and they fit like a glove. They came in Tan and Black as far as I know. Paid 200$ for mint front and rear at the local junkyard.

This sounds awesome! Good to hear they fit. too. I'll have to look around, I know my buddy had a g35 and those seats were great too!

Mountain Brew,

The PO did the seats, he said they bolted to the floor just fine but he felt they were too low. I think they were the same height of the originals, but he didn't like that, so he fabed a square mount that goes to all four holes and raises the seats up about 1 inch. He did a nice job and it looks like square steel tube of 1/2 or 3/4 inch width. The seats really make long trips a pleasure.

Thanks for the reply! A friend of mine has an FJ and I love the seats. Comfortable and feel like they would keep you in place during some bumpy rides.
 
JDM Recaro seats that was factory option that my friend has in his Hilux Surf. Have seen some on eBay for around $400 a pair but the shipping.....

I knew that spending $600 on used seats would just make me think to myself. "If i had only waited one more paycheck"... every time i got in. So, I waited- then bit the bullet...

Corbeau Baja RS Suspension Reclining seats have been ordered.

Preinstalled with Adjustable lumbar support and butt warmers!! :party:

$1300 out the door. But well worth it in my eyes- I will be using this 4runner for overland style travel. So comfort with the girlfriend is #1!

Ill post pics in my build thread once installed.

After reading your sig I was about to post that you should look into this style of seat... Good choice =)

Be sure to post pics when you have them as I'd be interested to see how they look in a second gen.
