Tires rub, need advice. 96 limited

Hello all,

First, thanks to EVERYONE who is involved in this forum. It has helped me immensely with my rig and I couldn't be more grateful for all the time and effort everyone puts into this forum.

I have a 1996 Limited 4x4. I recently lifted my rig. I have junkyard struts up front....they came off a 2003 tundra 4x4. I did do a diff drop as well. I have 7.5 wrap coils in the rear with bilistein 5100s.

I originally had 265/75/16 and went up to 285/75/16 and experienced rubbing. I was originally running on the front flares as well as the control arms. So put in Spidertrax spaces 1.25" . Now I have some rubbing on the backside of both wheel wells (see pics) .

What would you do, what are my options? I have already used a dremel to trim off the from end of my flares so I'm not scared to trim more. I also am open to removing my flares completely as this was on my list to do but I'm concerned about the holes and water getting into the cabin.....thoughts ladies and gentlemen please???

Trim it all. Inner plastic and flare. Then take a hammer and hammer the pitch weld back.

Won’t an alignment help if they max out the caster or something? I know I’ve read something about that..

I have a 2000 with same size tires, a 2.5-3” lift and 1” bora spacers and I only rubbed on a very small corner of the front bumper which I then hacked off with a hacksaw.

Seems like a dremel might be the answer? It's my rig and I did buy it to build and take to the mountains regularly. Just really curious to hear everyones thoughts because there are so many creative people with great ideas.

Have you thought about installing top mount spacers on the front? I’ve got the same front end take and I’ll be installing Toytec front spacers to make up for it.

Yes it is true if you completely remove the spacers that you will likely slightly the 285s against the UCAs but that should only be if your sway bar is removed and will likely only happen when you drive around corners (with bar removed) or at full droop while crawling. It is much less of a problem then the rubbing while trying to park IMO.

Your spacers are likely making the rubbing worse. Combinedwith factory wheels and 285s are why you are rubbing. So either get different wheels or get custom 0.75" spacers or perhaps put the front sway bar back on (if you removed it).
