So I am getting a 2.5" Daystar lift on my 09 TE 4runner and the shop told me they were going to put on 285/70 tires. Is this way to big to run with just 2.5" lift and no spacers?
well, I just had the daystar 2.5 lift in the front and 1.5 lift put on on. I have a 2006, I assume our wheel wells are similar, I also got 20x9 rims with an +18 inch offset.
I went with 285/50/20, nitto terra grappler. The tire specs claim that this is a 31.26 inch tire, I think it's a liitle closer to 32 inches because of it's nobby tread
The daystar lift kit claims on the box, you can do a 32 inch tire on a 03-09 4runner.
If you're trying to fit a 33 inch tire, it will rub. It will rub the front bumper, it will rub the front mud flap, it will probably rub the A arm.
with an 18 inch offset, which is wider than stock, my 285, 31.26 inch tire JUST BARELY clears my A arm
I had to trim about an inch off the corners of the front bumper, It's not difficult to do this and I made it look nice, and it does rub the front mud flap when I go in reverse and crank the wheel.
In my opinion, from my experience of what I went through with this lift and tires, don't go bigger than a 32 inch tire with the lift kit, and if you have stock rims, You just MIGHT need a little spacer to not rub the A-arm.
Here's some pics to show you- this is the clearance from A-arm to tire, NOT MUCH space, less than an inch
