I love the BKG's AT's. I got almost 40K on them and they still have lots of tread left on them/ and they have never needed to be rotated/perfect tread wear.

revos would be your best bet alot of people on here use em and love them to death. (im not much of b-stone fan)
Michleins are nice for On-road stuff there alot softer rubber and pretty good in snow and suck in the woods IMO (had X-terrians b4 the wranglers)
wranglers run about 1K with road hazard if you wanna drop that much =)

I've had two sets of BG ATs and they look great but they are so-so in the rain and dry pavement compared to Yokohama Geolandars,Revos or even Nitto TerraGrapplers and the BFGs cost a fair amount more and have no mileage warranty.
The Revos and the Yok AT+IIs also both have 50k treadwear warranty and both have much better daily driver manners but the Yoks are a bit closer to the BFGs when off road and there's a few guys that swear by the Yoks going over the trails in Moab.

I've had two set of the BFGs and they failed to impress me when on road (they hydroplane too easily than other AT tires) and for the cost is just are too much when there's viably competitive tires for much cheaper.
I'm either going with the Yoks or the Nittos on my Runner pretty shortly and while I do like the BFGs aggressive looks they just don't work for me when I spend 90% of my driving on pavement plus everybody and their moms have BFGs so I want to be different.

I priced all these tires (265/75/16 size) on Discount Tire's website and the Revos were at about $650ish and the Nittos (D rated) and Yoks can go out the door for under $670 w/tax while the BFGs would cost over $830 with tax.
I included the road hazard warranties which adds $80 to all the prices so you could save more without the warranties but if you off road a bit then they're worth it.

The website shows that the Nittos are only $9 a tire cheaper than the BFGs D load rated tire but that's for a E load rating Nitto which is a bit much for a 4Runner and the D rating is $122 a tire which is $37 a tire cheaper than the BFGs.

I just purchased a set of Yokohama Geolander II's from the TireRack. I was a little unsure about purchasing this brand because I never heard much about them. I think the tread looks great, nice and aggressive, but they are really quiet on the road. Not sure about wear yet as I've only had them for about 3,000 miles. They have a 40,000 mile warranty though.

Talked to a friend of mine in the wholesale tire business. He said the Yoko was a premium tire. Only problem is you might have a hard time finding a replacement if you happen to tear one up.

I failed to note I also had a set of the Yoks on my '97 4runner and they were a great tire off road and in the snow. Yes,they are softer than the BFGs but they conformed or grabbed large boulders better than the BFGs and on road that softer compound enhanced road handling but it also will wear a little faster but I'll take a little less treadlife for a tire that gives me better overall performance.
Availability on the Geolandar also doesn't seem to be an issue as they've pretty much always been in stock for the last three years anytime my friend's went and bought a set.

My first choice is the Toyo Open Country A/T.

Toyo has been the #1 tire brand for the last 8 years for a reason. :

The tread is slightly different, but Nitto is a subsidiary of Toyo. :
