Tires

I found interesting information (I think so). I've browsed website of our Japanese friends "#215 Surf Owners Club". Japanese HiluxSurf is our 4Runner. So after looking at their pictures I realized that most of the guys there using BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A or Yokohama Geolander A/T tires. Only few of them use Yokohama Geolander M/T and just ONE Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo. The question is WHY... On this forum it's clearly stated that Revos are one of the best tires for 4Runner. Is it because they don't have Bridgestone in Japan or what? Just interesting to know why we are so different in tires choice.

The Revos are a great all around street/AT tire and is just the popular choice but it doesn't mean others are bad. There's quite a few guys that drive TO Moab AND tear right up some pretty hairy trails on sets of Yokohama Geolandar AT+IIs. I also had a set on my '97 Runner and they did have very decent dry grip for an off road tire but that grip comes at a little faster wear since you won't see 50k out of them but to me that would be a small sacrifice for on road handling since my truck is on pavement over 90% of the time.
They also resisted hydroplaning at 60mph which the Yoks are much better in the wet than BFG ATs which IMO and many others BFGs aren't the ideal choice for a daily driver since their dry handling is so-so along with their rain manners,no treadwear warranty (the Yoks have a 40k) and not to mention their price will run you $200+ more than what you can get set of comparable Geolandars.

I have experience on all these tires especially the BFGs (loved 'em in the '90s) but the Yoks are hard to beat with their price and the Revos are a great DD tire which has little in the fault dept. If you truly see off-road trips regularly then the the BFGs might be worth the extra dough due to their ruggedness and strong sidewalls and they do look good.

I'm actually looking at a set of Nitto TerraGrapplers (265/75) which cost about the same as the Revos but I want something different and I've read good things about the Nittos in the last year or so and they have a cool lightning bolt sidewall.

Why is everyone so quick to get rid of their Dunlops?

I did a search regarding tires, but only get threads of people bashing the Dunlops and talking about being the next to buy the Bridgestones.

I don't think the Dunlops are a bad tire for normal driving, they have actually been good for that. I put over 45K on mine and they lasted longer than I expected. As far as performance....other than loss of traction on wet, slippery surfaces, they have done as expected. Yes, they have prevented me from getting to certain places because of poor traction but they are not an A/T tire. I may just be lucky (knock on wood) but I have never had a flat and they are wore down smooth on the outer edges.
I drive offraod almost every weekend, just the nature of the area I live and my hobbies, so I am gald to replace them with a good A/T tire.

Yes they are not bad in dry asphalt, but so slippy in wet. I remember few weeks ago I was on ramp to highway and slip-off the ramp at 50mph. Luckily I used my previous racing experience, so I had a little bit of off-roading while was trying to get back to the highway. I can just imagine how they would perform in snowing/icing winter. After all I decided to go with Revos and I just put them on my truck yesterday afternoon.
