Just thought I'd share. I think this is coming out in the 11/05 Consumer Reports. The tires tested were all the same size (conveniently 265/70R17 ).

Are those prices correct? Only less than $100 for the Terra Grapplers? They're $200+ for the 295/70-17 (I was going to throw these on my Titan).

I just checked America's Tire (same as Discount Tire) and they're $168, and the 265/75-16 are $155 for load range D and $159 for load range E.

Sorry, I was referring to the 265/70R17's used in the test.

I just got a set of two week old Terra Grapplers, 265/70-17's. I have just driven on them for a couple of days. They seem to ride a bit nicer and quieter than the stock 16" Bridgestones.

I found them on eBay and they came with the Nittos, but I thought the guy was asking too much, and he wasn't getting any bids. The guy was in San Diego and I emailed him a lower offer and said I would pick them up. Well, I thought I lost because he got a bid for what he was asking, but the deal fell through because that buyer did not read the auction carefully....no shipping. So the owner emailed me and accepted my offer. I went down to pick them up.

I then had the tires unmounted, and took the rims to get powder coated this past Monday....picked them up Wednesday morning, ...got everything mounted....even moved the tire pressure monitors....and have been a happy camper.

Glad to see my tires on there at #4. I paid $115 for the Toyo's, but I think that was will all the crap they add to it. I went with the 265/75 16 size. One inch taller, or 3%. I like them a lot and they grip a lot better than the Radial Long Terrain TA's that I had before. The only problem is that I was getting about 19 MPG before and now I'm around 17 after I factor in the 3% difference.

What's interesting with larger tires is that you're going faster and further than your odometer reads. So if you buy tires that are 5% bigger when you buy your car, when you sell it the car will have 5% more miles on it than the OD reads.

My last truck (01 2500HD 4x4) had tires that were 10% bigger than stock.

I just got a set of Nittos and my 265/75/16s were only $135 each monted and balanced in the D load range.

Can't wait til it snows now.
