I'm looking for feedback on a tire issue. I want to get rid of the Dunlop AT20 and replace with a Revo (or similar tire). The Toyota dealer does not show a 265-65-17 in the Revo (P-rated) but does show a 265-70-17. Local Big O store can get the 265-65-17 and does use the GSP 9700 and Haweka flange plate adapter (as does the dealer).

I would have to buy 5 tires if I change diameter and my speedometer would be off a bit so I think I want to remain with the 65 series. Also, according to some on this discussion, want to remain with the P vs. LT as the ride will be smoother and still give me performance offroad and winter that I need in CO.

I know some of you like the looks of the 70 series but for now think I want to stick with the 65. Both vendors will give me 20 to 30 dollars for my AT20 giving me an out the door price, not including tax, of around $900. Had I know the reputation of the Dunlop AT20 prior to purchase I would have negotiated different tires - live and learn. Would appreciate any confirmation or objections to my plan.

BTW, these prices are only about 10 more per tire than the Tire Rack price plus shipping and installation and I get free rotation and local support.

It's just my preference but I made sure to request any wheel balancing weights to be on the inside of the rim - that way I don't see them.

If you look at the REVO LT 265-70-17 (not the same as the P 265-70-17) you will find that its actual size is very close to the OEM 265-65-17 and a little wider with different/more tread depth (more agressive tread pattern). I have the LTs on my Taco and they are constructed like the BFG KOs. They are "E" rated. They will be the replacement for my 05 4Runner as soon as needed. They have provided the best ride and performance on my 2wd Taco PreRunner w/blower out of many other top tires I've had problems with.

Thanks Koz (re: the 265-65-17 vs. 265-70-17 on the 2006 Sport V-8) From elsewhere in this forum someone said they thought the P was the way to go due to a relatively light vehicle and better ride. I just don't want my systems changed,( speedo, etc.) because I changed tire diameter.

I don't see why Toyota even uses a 65 as stock on the Sport when I find many of the tire options shown on Tire Rack don't even come in 65, only 70s. Maybe I'm reading too much into this matter. I did not know the LT had a slightly more aggressive tread and appreciate your heads up. Do you think I would need to buy a spare in the new size or is the difference too small to matter?

I will try and check tire OD through Bridgestone website. With your suggestion I'm now back to considering the 70 series in an LT. I'm pretty unhappy with the stealer letting a customer walk away, knowing I lived in the mountains, with such a low ranked tire as the Dunlop AT20.

I have the "P" Revo , 70 series , ride's nice , decent in snow , excellent in rain, good all season tire IMO I don't think much of it off road in mud , but it's not a mud tire.....

Stiffer AT tire the "E" rated Revo , can't answer for ride ect...

Nitto & BFG AT are "C" rated and kind of a good balance between the "P" & "E" IMO , still ride decent and handle airing down situation's if you ever need to do that in extremely tough condition's.

Next time I will go back to BFG AT or try a Nitto TG AT . I like deeper lugs/tread pattern than the "P" Revos have. probably a mental thing , but I'm kinda mental sometime's....lol

I did replace all 5 tire's with 265/70/17 , got 50.00 a pc for my Donlops AT20's from the tire store . I also replaced my Donlops on day 1 of the 4R.

Good to hear your comments Falls. Get my 65 Revos this week - decided to stick with stock size in the P series. In CO I usually only get 25-30K off my tires as I like to get rid of them when the siping on the tire edges begin to go - won't turn/stop as well on snow and ice. Could run a lot longer in the flatlands. I'm only getting $20 per tire on the Dunlops for trade in. You did good at 50.

Toy, my tire's were new when traded. I can see about not running the tire's down so low. I don't either and I don't have the situation you do.

I've never seen Revos listed in the stock 265/65/17 size, even on the Bridgestone site. Were they a special order (ie more expensive) with BigO or a "normal" order?

Pips - I saw the 265-65-17 Revos on the Bridgestone site and then 2 independent dealers in the same town said yes they can get them and do install that size. Mine should be in today. Maybe this is some sort of regional issue. They were also shown on the Tire Rack site. A Toyota dealer in Denver (100 miles from me and where I bought the car) also said he couldn't get that size. I just figured his supplier couldn't get it and therefor he was telling me it wasn't available. I can post once I get them on my car in next day or so.

Nitto does not have a 17" LT that will fit the 4th gen 4Runner. 285 and 295 are too wide. Otherwise I'd try a set.

There's several 4th gens around here with Nittos and I think the size is a 265/75/17 but I may be mistaken but do a search and you should get some results.
