Hi all, been reading for a long time, and finally joined. I've got an '02 SR5 4WD with 15" wheels. I'm looking for a bit more ground clearance. I plan on lift with coilovers and the whole deal in the future, but I'm in need of tires now. Based on what I've read here, I can fit a 30.5" tire on my stock wheels without rubbing. My question is, should I upsize my tires now knowing I will also lift in a year or so, or am I better off buying 16" wheels and tires. Most driving is in town, but also a fair amt of beach driving and boat towing. Thanks for the advice.

I dont really know much about 15" wheels and how they fit with what tires, but i have 17" black wheels on 265/70/17 tires which is pretty much a 31.5 in. tire. I do have a 2.5" lift, but i ran those tires with those wheels before the lift, with no rubbing. If you need tires now and your only planning on lifting it 2-3 inches I would go with 265's. I actually dont like my 17" wheels so im going to go back to the OEM wheels after I paint them here pretty soon. If your lifting it more than 3 inches, or can possibly hold out with what tires you have before you get the lift, i would go with bigger tires. 285's. But sorry I cant help you with the rim situation. I just know that the 16" rims are more compatible.

but dont get the 285's till you get the lift. they wont fit

Perhaps you could get some lower priced 31/10.5 R15's to run for a while. They will look fine with a mild lift if you get that at some time. While you're waiting to do the lift watch the Classifieds on the usual toyota forums and I'm sure you could pick up some 16" rims cheap sooner or later ready for the next set of tires. Then when the lift is in, throw in a 1"body lift, and whack on the 16's with some 285/75's or 255-85's.
Then re-gear to 4.56's, throw in a locker while the diff's are out, get some body armour and then some..... whoops, sorry, I'm getting carried away here. It to much fun doing mods
