Bought my '99 in January, 2005 from the local Toyota dealership. The previous (and only) owner's son had put a set of 31.50 BFG's on it - I guess thinking it would look cool, or like a 4WD ...(it's a 4 cylinder, 2WD!!). I took the tires off, sold them to a friend, who put them on his full size Ford Bronco, and I bought a set of Hankook Dynapros for the 4Runner. They were 40,000 mile rated, and I had them rotated every 5,000 miles....
Last week, I had to get new tires.....after 62,000 miles, one of the tires suffered a separated tread, so rather than play a guessing game and only replace one tire, I bought four new ones. Unfortunately, the Hankooks weren't available, so I've put a set of Goodyear Wrangler GS-A's on it -- and had them filled with Nitrogen....
Will watch the mileage carefully - nitrogen filled tires are supposed to get better mileage, as well as last longer because they're running cooler...... stay tuned........
