To all OME 880 and 881 owners

Hi,

I'm about to do the front coils and shocks on my truck. I haven't owned it for very long, and I installed 906 in the rear. I get the feeling the coils on it are not stock, because the front seems like it's a good height. Just wondering - does anyone have their center of hub to wheel well edge measurement for their 880 or 881 setups? I'd like to see where new springs would put me relative to where I am now.

Thanks!

I'm at 23" center to top of wheel well. 881's with Bilstein 4600's. These have about 3000 highway miles on them (~20 off road miles) and haven't quite finished settling. I have stock skids and minimal additional weight beyond stock on the forward half of the vehicle.

Thanks

Cheers - right now I have about an inch of difference between front and back. 22ish with the 906 and 21ish with whatever I have in the front. Maybe I only need to replace the shock and leave the spring alone. How can you tell if springs are "tired" and if they need replacing? I don't have any lean or uneven wear. The springs look used but not beat up.

I had 880's with 1/2" top spacers and still only wound up at around 22" on a stock bumper with OEM style shocks...let me tell you this, OME coils in my experiences were very rough/stiff with no added weight...I ended up getting eibach 620lb 3" coils with tundra 5100s on 2nd perch and got around 3.5" lift in the front and theyre a lot smoother than the 880s..just my .02

Only way I know to tell if an automotive spring needs replacement, aside from it being physically broken, is if it is sagging.

Sounds like yours aren't sagging.

I'd talk to a place like Wheeler's Offroad, they'll be able to ask you the right questions to help determine what kind of front spring you need, if any, for your specific application and driving style/habits/preference.

Bummer

Stiffness doesn't bother me - I don't really off-road much - so actually it will help.

if you're at 22 with 880s in the front and spacers I'd still get half an inch over what I have now - and still have a slight rake. I'm good with that.

I've called Wheelers - they keep recommending the 881 with the 906s - which goes contrary to everything I've read - and if your measurements with the 881 are right, then I don't want that - I'd be getting negative rake.

Maybe someone else with 881s that have settled will be able to pipe in. I bought mine specifically to chuck some extra weight at (~250lbs of bumper, winch, line, and other gear) so I wouldn't have too much height in the front. I'm about level now unladen (loaded it sags in the back a small amount), hoping to drop 1-2" in the front with the additional weight so I can get a decent rake.

I just did the 881's and 906's w/ 10mm trim packers last weekend. You're right, Wheelers recommends the 881's or the 880's w/ a spacer. I don't have the hub to fender measurement but I'm sitting pretty much level on all 4 corners. (I think 36 3/4 from ground to fender) So if I didn't add the trim packers I'd have reverse rake. I also think I'd be disappointed in the small amount of lift had I went with the 880's by themselves.

We'll see what happens when all settles. I believe I'm lighter up front since I have the 3RZ.
