To all those who have Installed DT long Tube Headers

I have a 2005 4.7L 4Runner. I just got my DT long tubes the other day. I can't seem to get an answer from Burtman or that Gagett guy from URD. Do I need 2 90deg O2 sensor Spacers or 1 90 and 1 straight O2 sensor spacer? Or do I really need that O2 simulator?

Thanks

I haven't installed mine yet but I will be using 1 90 degree spacer per lower O2 sensor. We have a total of 4 O2 sensors with the upper ones being A/F ratio related and the lower ones for monitoring cat function. You want 1 spacer per LOWER O2 sensor ONLY. You will need a total of 2 spacers to get the job done. Most people use the 90 degree because it fits better than the straight spacer but you can use that if you would prefer. These are what I ordered. They seem nice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNJJQCT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got 4x of a straight spacer. They are double stacked on each y-pipe O2 sensor. NOTHING goes on the long tube O2 bungs other than the factory sensor.

A single spacer on the y-pipe O2 sensors will likely still throw a code. Mine ran for about 45minutes with a single spacer on the rear before throwing a code. I'm on multiple weeks with the double stacked spacers and no codes or issues.

Do be aware that you'll also want to make sure to drive for a few miles (50ish) and then retorque all the bolts. Mine headers were leaking at the flange before they got retorqued. No issues since getting that squared away.

I just saw Gadget chime in on this very subject on a GX fb page. He advised using his URD o2 sensor simulator. He claims that the 05' and up are usually a little more sensitive to these changes than the 03' - 04'. I think there are some people that have gotten away with spacers on all years of 4th gen V8s.
I have an 03' with some 90 degree mini cat amazon cheapies that are 600 miles in and haven't had any codes yet. Good Luck!

I used two 90 degree CEL eliminators (one on each side) from Ebay in the DT Y pipe.
No codes, no issues & the wiring reaches perfectly.

I've got a URD Simulator in my garage. I went with Cats on my shorties so I ended up not needing it.

Anyone needs it, let me know. I'll sell it to you with shipping included to the continental US for whatever URD is currently selling them for.

DT HEADERS 05 v8

Hey, I've been lurking trying to find more info before I pull the trigger on the DT headers, plus any extra required items for installation and use. I have an 05 V8 with the Borla CatBack dual exhaust. I HAVE to be able to pass CA state smog checks for my Oregon registration renewals. If I am understanding this, there's long tubes and short tubes, and the additional question if you want a Y pipe, and the potential for removing CATS? I just want headers, and no check engine light, and pass smog if that's possible with my setup. I'll do the Y pipe if necessary, but I thought I had one from my exhaust system.

Either LT or ST Headers you can remove the primary cats.

The LT are 100% bolt-in. They attach to the engine block, then conenct to either the factory y-pipe or the DT/URD aftermarket y-pipe.

The ST are designed to be welded to the top of the OEM primary cat, but you don't have to if you don't want. You can have your fabricator weld in straight pipe to then connect to the y-pipe of your choosing.

If you're planning on running no primary cats (I elected to buy some really nice performance cats because I didn't want to stink like hell, link in my signature), the decision comes down to how easy you want the install to be and to where you want most of the power gains. LT will be higher in the RPM range while ST will be down low. I tow somewhat often, so I prioritized the low-end power over mid-high end power. It's a truck, not a track car.

Does CA do exhaust inspections beyond just looking for codes? Visual or exhaust gas sampling?

If they just look for codes, then all you need are the LT headers and the Rear O2 Simulator. You can run whatever y-pipe you want. If it were me, I'd spend the $400 on the DT y-pipe and get rid of OEM y-pipe and cats. The DT Y-pipe has resonators, not cats.

But if you want to keep the secondary cats to at least run KINDA clean, you can. But I would look at welding in a section of pipe to replace the crushed portion of the y-pipe where it crosses under the Transmission. Super restrictive there and I'd want it gone if it were me.

Little long winded, but boils down to below (assuming they're only looking for codes).

Running LT: all you need are the headers and the URD O2 Sim (assuming the inspector only looks for codes at inspection, if they look for more, I'd run ST + cats, with a catless Y-pipe).

Running ST with cats: Headers, then decide on what you're running for primary cats, and fabricate connection to y-pipe if not reusing OEM primary cat.

Running ST no cats: Headers and O2 Sim, and fabricate to y-pipe of choice.

If the inspection is more thorough (visual and/or gas sampling), I'd recommend the shorties, the cats I have in my signature and the DT y-pipe.

Hope this helps.

The only way to pass CA smog with any cat modifications is to use my mini-cats. No other solution (not even an o2 simulator) will work. I am in California and they do a visual inspection on the sensors, the wires, connect it to a computer to verify that the cat signal is functioning correctly AND has the correct waveform AND stick a sniffer in the exhaust.

Say Hello to my Lil Friend

Every other state seems to be ok with other solutions, but not California. All of this is moot unless you have CARB compliant headers anyways, I am not sure any headers are listed with an E.O. number for CA yet.

Hey sir

Resurrecting a dead thread here but do you still have this part? I’d be interested in purchasing if you do. Thanks!

For Duffdog. So do you have any details on your mini cats? Thanks

Unfortunately I do believe that duffdog has stopped making and selling the "minicats", I have mentioned him in this post so maybe he will reply and elaborate, but he may not since he doesn't visit the forum that often anymore.

Update. I bought a the cel mini cat fix spacers and still had cel issues with the bank 2 o2 sensor. I ended up going with the URD simulator.
