To Plasti Dip or not.....

Until I can afford new rims/tires, I am thinking about doing Plasti Dip on my rims as well as all my emblems. Thoughts?? How well does it hold up on a DD? Now of course I expect the upcoming snow and road salt to beat them up.

I did the emblems on my t4r and I think it looks great! I also did my wheels on my 350z and that's my dd, no signs of peeling but I also don't take it off road and if it snows which it hasn't yet since I've did them it doesn't see the road. I'm thinking about doing my wheels on my runner since my wheels on my z turned out so well, only thing i don't like is the balance weights on the outside of the wheels on the runner( I have the 3 spoke ones). If you decide to do your wheels make sure you do a lot of light coats to it doesn't bubble or run. I probably did about 6 coats on each wheel because also doing a lot of coats will make it easier to peel off in one solid piece if you ever get tired of it. Good luck with it and post some pics when you do it!

I will. Thanks for that. Obviously I expect them to get peeled/chipped whatever you wanna call it when I take it off the road. My stock rims are a little beat up with age. I was also wondering what should I do beside a nice scrubbing? Will the dip fill in the little scruffs and smooth out as the coats go on?

Oh and I will start a build thread soon as I start the build.

Have some patience. You posted at 9:20 on a Saturday night and didn't get a reply for 30 minutes. I'm pretty geeky and I didn't even get on here until after 10 pm. Cooler people than me (probably most of the members on here LOL) likely have better stuff going on a Saturday night.

Thanks. I'm enjoying building this one. Just bought new tires. My OME lift is sitting in my garage, and my Stubbs HD-SKO sliders are somewhere with UPS on their way to me.

Sorry to jump the gun. I have some major issues...especially when it involves my Toy!

Thanks for all the great pictures! Most look like professional paint jobs! I bought the Plastic Dip...now just need to pull the trigger. Maybe tomorrow??

Here's the plan, prolly about 12 cans of black and 2 red. I figure at least 2 coats each rim hopefully 2 cans each rim, then the grill and all the emblems. Then use the red on the center caps and the Toyota logo. I dunno about the last part though cause my T4R is off white. More towards cream. Not sure how the red would look......

no reason for 12 cans sir. I did my 15's a while back partially as an experiment. I used 1 1/2 cans. only waited probably 3 minutes per coat. very little prep... wiped them down with a wet paper towel and taped up the lug nuts and around the tire. took about two hours start to finish and it even rained as i finished up. granted i should have used the full two cans but it has held up so far. survived dried on mud and countless power washes.

get yourself two maybe three cans of black. the red is pretty bright.

updated my last post... yeah ive used the car wash wand on it up to 4 inches on high pressure so far.

I dropped a lugnut on it and made a small gouge. I dont know where it is anymore though. must have healed itself.

i just sprayed my tire weights too. next time i balance the tires ill finish off that final can. and there is no reason to do the back side of the wheels either.

ugh damn it. phone isnt registering half of my on screen keyboard inputs. im too fast for it.

i said something like " dont forget that 14 cans is gonnq cost you probably $120... and thats not acceptable.

also do light coats as mentioned before. i probably did about four per wheel.
