To spoil er not to spoil

Well, let me celebrate my first post! I'm continuing the cleanup of my new-to-me 03 Limited today and will post a few pics as I go, but I noticed something yesterday....

My 03 does NOT have a spoiler over the rear window. I didn't even notice this when shopping or when I bought it, but I've always noticed them on other T4r's before. Anyone know if it was an option? Since mine is a Limited it seems like it has about every other available option. I'm not too worried about it but curious since it seems like every other 4Runner I see has one.

The spoilers only came on the sport edition or the urban runner I am pretty sure. You can find them for sale on ebay or get one from a junk yard

I think they were a dealer add-on option. Quite a few had them I think. Mine didn't but I bought one from Ebay from Autowingandspoilerking. Prepainted and looks perfect.

There are two kinds of spoilers - dealer added ("port installed") and factory installed. The factory one is taller, if I remember right.

I have an 07 limited with the factory installed spoiler. There is no 3rd tail light under it, just an indentation in the sheet metal where it would go. I don't know if the spoiler was an option on the 03. The majority of 4th gens I see here in Colorado seem to have spoilers.

The factory spoiler is nice to keep the back clean, but it probably hurts gas mileage a bit since it deflects air down.

My limited 06 has one and i like the look with it. go for it.

b/c it gives the appearance of a extended roof line and squares off the back end making the angles more aggressive.

Kind of like it was part of the 4.5 gen (06-09) restyle:beer:

Spoilers were an option on any model; SR5, Sport, Limited, V6 or V8, 2wd or 4wd....

All LTD's up here in Canada have them.
I like it because it clears the back window under speed.

Get some Weathertech mats, I have them front and front... Keeps the interior nice and clean.

I got OEM Toyota all-weather mats just the other day. The Weathertech ones are just a bit bulky IMO. Thanks!

I thought he was asking about a rear spoiler? What do floor mats have to do with that?

Anyway, I think they look good so I would do it for sure if it's in your budget.

Burtman Industries has two versions of the rear roof spoiler. Factory (with hump) and a non-hump version.

Pricey, but to some worth it.

Mine didn't come with a spoiler and I had originally planned on putting one on, but the look grew on me and I quite like it without. Without it keeps the rear end much more simple and gives me the impression of an updated 3rd gen rear end. Seeing one with the spoiler now looks like a completely different truck

same here, i always wanted one and specially when it snows since no spoiler makes the rear window get filled with snow fairly quick.
Also i starter surfing and having the spoiler there would mean the board hitting it when i load it on the roof.
