today's bumper build...and some damage

Well my buddy had an old jeep bumper laying in his back yard so the other night we decided that we were going to see if it worked on the runner...so after we got my bumper off we took the new one to some places to see what welding would cost or the raw materials to fab up some new brackets but before we got too far...

yay.... but we sound some shade tree dudes that had a welder so after we got through the language barrier they figured out this is what we wanted done

for $40 I thought it was a decent deal...no?

and there she is, very happy with my new $40 tube bumper

The breaking of the window was the toyota gods telling you to NOT put a JEEP part on your 4runner!!!! Should have listened.... im just kidding.... i have always liked the large bumpers that stick way out like that. i almost built one for my 87' until i thought about it being a pain while i was trying to work in the engine bay...

looks good! specially for $40!
 
It's only a Jeep bumper if it's on a Jeep.
It looks good and looks like it fits well.
I'm guessing that it hit the glass while you were driving to the shop.
 
That looks awesome man! Iv'e never seen a thick tube bumper like that on the front of a 3rd gen before. My old 73" CJ5 had a bumper a lot like that. I bet that bumper is heavy
 
It's really not too heavy, I'd say like 40lbs but it does't cause any more rake than the stock....which by the way seemed like there was some very senseless stuff in
 
I can't figure out if I really like that bumper or if I'm just warming up to tube bumpers. But it looks great. Hell of a deal. Congrats! :D
 
If that's the smittybilt TJ bumper, I think I've seen the very same bumper on an FJ60. Looks pretty good. Must be a pretty universal design.
 
I've never liked them - I think they make the car look naked - but I really like the way yours turned out. Looks really solid.
 
We thought about cutting the stock bumper brackets off from the frame horns but it just so happened that the depth and height of the mounting part of the bumper was perfect to just rest on top of the stock mounting brackets as well as the frame horns on the top side. so it was welded to the frame horns and the bumper bracket on the top side and the bumper bracket on the bottom side...weld is ugly as hell however very thick, I don't mind the ugly weld it seems pretty darn sturdy...

we then reached the predicament of mounting the blinkers but I ended up just wiring them through the running lights. the voltage of the bulb of the running lights is smaller so it blinks a little fast but nothing too bad, I plan on trying to figure out what kin of bulb I can use to not make it seem as if its shorting out
