About 6 inches on the ground now. I need to hit the road in a bit. When I put it into 4wd do I want the Differential button on or off?

Depends as different years have different setups. What year?? Have you read any of the 4WD threads? I have a 2000 and we have had about 4" of snow and I only used the 4WD button on the side of my shifter. (kinda like AWD) I didn't shift my shifter into 4WD and had no problems getting around.

you're talking the rear locking diff?

I thought those would only lock in 4wd LOW, and unlocked after a certain speed? like 5mph or something very low.

I think for your conditions, just 4wd will be sufficient, so differential button off.

He might be talking center diff lock? (4WD)

Usually the full time 4wd function (center "diff" open) is enough for most winter driving.

The only time I find that it lets me down is when things are super slick with slushy stuff, hard packed snow, or ice. With that, the truck tends to get a bit unpredictable as the power shifts back and forth between the front and the rear of the vehicle with the losses of traction (not sure if the traction control on yours would minimize this). It is like driving front wheel drive one minute and then rear wheel drive the next, but you have no idea at any given moment which you are driving. That's when I start switching to part time 4wd (center "diff" locked) to eliminate that variable.

If you are getting some traction front and back, this isn't really a concern. Just feel it out as you go.

C'mon folks - Post some pics of your Runner's in the snow for us in the south who don't get snow!!! LOL

We got about 10" here last Th-Fr, but it settled to about 6" by Saturday. Took a drive through the country and up this half-mile lane to a 'castle' (a guy is building it for weddings and so forth).

I like leaving the center diff unlocked in snow but I locked it before we started up this lane.

Yeah the conspiracy theorists have gone crazy on that one. This little castle isn't that place. Here are some links about 'that place': Pensmoreâ„¢

The Real Story Behind The Pensmore Mansion | Transform Systems Provides Durability and Energy Efficiency | Springfield Lifestyle

It is 72,000 sq feet, made of a new lightweight concrete with a new forming system. The local news has had several stories. Apparently the guy owns a concrete company in Wisconsin and is building this to show how good this new concrete is, how energy efficient it is, how it can stand up to tornados, and so forth. However, they have also reported the owner is the CTO of a company that provides satellite imaging and analysis for the gov (and other govs?) and specialized software for that sort of thing. Maybe the same guy. Anyway, it's on a large hill, on about 500 acres, about a mile off US 65 and clearly visible from the highway. No missile launchers are visible though, and no black helicopters flying overhread.:ohwell: I live about 8 miles from it. Not much conspiracy talk about it around here, not much talk about it at all these days. It's just that 'big house that guy is building'.
