Tokyo drift: a gas pedal journey.

Although understandable, Toyota IMO took the accelerator shaving to an extreme in the 5th gen. Coming from a 2004, I was not pleased on how the pedal felt. I searched but I didn't find any threads really complaining about this, so I may be alone or I might just be too short. But maybe somebody else out there might find this helpful.

I looked at gas pedal extensions, and covers, and maybe even a new pedal period. But I found this guy on amazon for around 20 bucks which was worth a shot. It's a little "racey" for my tastes, but it does the job.

Pro's - the gas pedal now feels very hefty, and responsive. From normal driving to flooring the pedal, and the range of motion seems largely unchanged. Although since the pedal is longer, I suppose thats why it feels more responsive.

Con's - the pedal sits probably 3mm's higher since its a cover. This makes the brake pedal feel like it needs to travel farther to achieve the same braking.

The 4th gen had a recall to cut the bottom of the gas pedal off. This was a due to the sudden acceleration/stuck accelerator pedal law suit from several years ago. I never took mine in because I liked it the way it was but on the recall they actually cut off the bottom of the gas pedal so it could not hit the floor mat and cause the gas pedal to stick wide open. I guess Toyota learned its lesson and just made the 5th gen gas pedal short from the get go.
